What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews are mixed, highlighting both significant positive and negative experiences. Positive feedback praised the McAllen Parks and Rec 'Learn to Swim' aquatic program for its attentive and supportive staff and the enjoyable parent-child interaction on the final day. However, several negative issues were raised, including unprofessional and potentially dangerous conduct by a lifeguard (throwing a ball, hitting a child, making threatening remarks to kids), poor park maintenance (trash, lack of trees/tables, dirty swing), overly strict and unclear policies regarding appropriate swim attire, and a new policy for school field trips that denied parents (even those with babies) access to shade, forcing them to stand in the sun.

Horrible lifeguard, i don’t know her name but she’s a girl with black hair. My friends were playing volleyball and they don’t play so they don’t have great control so they kept accidentally hitting it past the slide line where the life guard was and the second time they did, she got the ball and threw it at the slide without checking if someone came down or not and when the ball came back to her, she threw it across the pool and hit a little boy in the head and didn’t say sorry. My friends were laughing because they thought she was being ridiculous since it was an accident but she also didn’t allow us to play in that area or even bring that ball over there. She told my friends to stop laughing because it wasn’t funny and that she was being serious, she told my friend “if you hit me I’ll hit you back” mind you this is a grown woman and me and my friends are kids. Please fix this
Always trash around. Need more trees and tables. Swing very dirty.
Really picky about what you wear to get wet. They said my 5 year old wasn't wearing the current attire when she was.
Our daughters, 5 and 6, recently finished their first Learn to Swim Aquatic Program with McAllen Parks and Rec. The staff showed exceptional attentiveness around the pool and were incredibly supportive of their students. What stood out the most was the final day when we were able to join our little ones in the pool. It was not only a fun opportunity to create memories with them, but also a chance to see firsthand how well they were applying what they had learned in class. Thanks McAllen Parks and Rec! :)
Went today on school field trip. As per new policy parents were made to stand directly under blazing sun. Parents are not privy of their shade use. Such disgusting new policy. Never mind the fact we all fit and some had babies with us. Those with children in life jackets were made to stand at edge on pool the entire time. Nevermind the fact, they are the life guards. Would have you come to my place of employ and do my job! Not worth it. Never again. Don’t have shade available if it cannot be used. Quite the tease.
