I love everything about the Cleveland County Y. It's a refuge for me, a welcome escape. The staff is outstanding. I always feel welcome. Zumba with Sheila or Chemise or Lori is the best therapy ever. I love walking the track on the many days when Norman weather is too brutal to be outside (which is a lot). And the joyous sounds of the happy, screaming kids in the gym below. I've heard a few folks complain about that, but I think it's life-affirming. Love it. I love pool-walking. I love the fact they keep puzzles out for people to work on. I love the community of people. It's the best.
We've been members of the Y for almost 10 years this time. I'm primarily in the weight room and my wife mostly in the pool. Thus, we have a pretty broad experience. Every aspect is beyond great: the staff, the people we have grown to know, the facilities and the equipment. Our children are grown, but watching the kids tells us they're having a great time. Add to all this, the opportunities for individual training, and our Y has all we need.
Honestly, I was asked to leave a review about the Norman YMCA… but I didn’t want to. I didn’t want to talk about the wonderful employees or the friendships that you will develop. I didn’t want to say how incredible you’ll feel after working out, or all the activities the Y offers… from yoga to swim classes and so much more. I didn’t want to mention how relaxing the pool, hot tub, and sauna are. I certainly didn’t want to discuss the very reasonable membership fees, the accommodating hours, or the childcare. Last but not least I didn’t want to tell you to join the Y because it’s pretty great…but I guess I will.
I have been going to the 7am and 7:45am water aroebics classes with Dallas as instructor for 5 years. I have found it to improve my body and life. Everyone is friendly and the class is fun. The water varies in temperature but easy to adjust to. I would recommend this to anyone. BTW, I am 81 years old and was new to the area when I joined. Great way to meet new people.
I love being welcomed with a friendly smile when I arrive to work out in the early morning. The facility is clean and fun. I use the pool 5 times a week and grateful to have somewhere safe to workout regardless of the temperature outside.
