I, my husband and daughter went on a Friday afternoon. We arrived at 4 and the park closed at 6. We feel we went at a perfect time because there was no wait to use the slides, the pools and wave pool were not crowded and there were ample chairs to place your belongings and relax. There's an awesome fully stocked bar with signature cocktails, beer and wine. There's a nice size snack bar with typical fare you'd find at a waterpark. We really enjoyed the slides and splash park area. The wave pool was a little lackluster as was the indoor pool but its great that they have them. There's a tiny adults only hot tub and another larger, deeper outdoor pool. We really liked the lazy river and were surprised at how calm it was considering most reviews say its crowded and chaotic. Again, it might have been quiet at the hour we went since it was a couple hours until closing. Since this park is within 5 minutes of where we live, we did not need to spend an entire day there and feel that we had a really good time in the 1 1/2 hours we spent there. I would definitely go again at the time we went and I would like to try the snack bar and a cocktail next time. I also have to say there was plenty of staff and lifeguards who were polite and attentive. All the water attractions and seating areas were clean as well.
I have been to Sahara Sam’s twice and it never fails to amaze me. The smell of chlorine is very strong, but that doesn’t stop you from having a lot of fun. Even though there’s usually a bunch of schools that come to visit since it’s pretty cheap with some “Happy Hour” type deals for entry, it’s easy to get in when you’re coming with friends. If you are coming on a school trip, the procedure we had was that we all waited on the bus to have our wrist bands put on by employees — but it could be different for everyone else. Unless you’re coming with a school or a similar organization, you won’t need a wristband. The waterpark has a bar, great food (but very overpriced), and is overall really fun! I’d recommend to anyone looking for a cheap getaway. Regarding the food, be prepared to wait a WHILE for your meal. This can take anywhere between fifteen minutes to half an hour, so order in advance (especially if you’re ordering with a group of people / a large meal). You still get what you pay for though, even though there’s few rides, it’s still really fun!
Not bad but not awesome. Good deal w/the Groupon but smallish. VERY very crowded. 2 water slides were closed while we were there which didn't help the long lines. Chaos reigns in the "lazy" river, it's more like crazy chaos river than anything else. Parking is free, lockers are $20 flat all day fee- and you're going to need one because the chairs get taken up and rearranged by large groups. They do birthday parties and group events here which is nice, but should have separate hours for such a small space to accommodate the large groups. Pools were ok, although they were all extremely cloudy by the end of the day. The hot tub area is also very small and unfortunately understaffed so TONS of small splashy kids play in them. The two working water slides were FAST and worth the line. The larger group tube was not worth the hour wait on line. They are staffed with teenagers like most places, however the line cutting here is RAMPANT and the kids working there trying but can't do much about it. There is a large bar w/tropical drinks and good service. A large snack/pizza area w/affordable options. Bathrooms are... questionable though so I recommend figuring out a workable changing option elsewhere if possible. All in all...worth it for the Groupon price -- but wouldn't pay more than $20/person.
Sahara Sam's is absolutely gross, nostalgic, and loads of fun all at the same time. There's a reason why they call it Boomer's Park. It hasn't been updated since they opened. Expect mounds of dust, but a warm feeling if you used to come here as a kid. It's best to get the park ticket before you come through Groupon. The water slides are a lot of fun, even as an adult. If you're coming to this water park, definitely lower your expectations for cleanliness. The children will love it, though, and despite the state of the facilities, you just might too. P.s.- Sahara Sam's should really shut the place down for the day and hire a cleaning crew to clean the outside of the slides, and the whole place, in general.
We celebrated my son's birthday party here and he and his friends had a blast! A big thank you to Kanesha! She was awesome and helped me with everything! Her and the staff helped make this a great day!
