Fitness and sports center boasting a spacious gym, a 50-meter outdoor pool and classes.
The Upper Main Line YMCA features a Lap Pool, generally maintained at 80-82 degrees Fahrenheit, suitable for fitness swimming and exercise. Additionally, it offers a Warm Water Therapy Pool, which is kept at a warmer 90-92 degrees Fahrenheit, ideal for therapy, swimming lessons, and recreational use.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for the Upper Main Line YMCA present a mixed picture, with significant praise for certain aspects alongside substantial criticism regarding others. A major point of contention is the pickleball courts, which are reportedly unusable due to removed nets and noise complaints, leading to member frustration, a lack of transparency, and membership cancellations for some. General facilities are cited as being in disarray, with slow repairs, including closed saunas and hot tubs, and facilities are often closed on holidays. One detailed review criticizes recent gym reorganizations, noting inconvenient layouts, removal of accessible equipment like the nu-step machine, and poor lighting. Conversely, the nature center and area receive high praise for their presentation and educational value, with swim lessons also commended for their quality. Many reviewers appreciate the wide range of activities for children, spanning sports, arts, and nature, fostering an 'old school vibe' with outdoor engagement. While the gym is currently undergoing a 3-week renovation expected to improve it, some members still report an overall wonderful experience and would highly recommend the location.

TLDR; Definitely don’t come here for pickleball. There are no nets. My family and I have been members here for over a year and below are some brief comments and concerns. Please note, I don’t swim. There are many pools, and seemingly a lot of people are only here for the pools. The gym was also good! They are redoing the gym right now, so if you are planning on joining in the next three weeks for the gym, don’t. It’s closed. It will reopen in 3 weeks once the renovation is done. I believe the renovations will make the gym nicer, but I will not know though since we have cancelled our membership. If you are going to play pickleball, you need to go somewhere else. There are very nice courts, but they have taken down the nets. There seemingly are some shenanigans with the neighbors saying they are too much noise and instead of figuring out a solution they went from no play after 6 pm, which is the only time someone with a job can play on weekdays, to just taking down the nets and closing all the courts. In addition, all the facilities are closed on most holidays which is frustrating for those of us who would like to use the facilities on our few days off of work. The last year has been an array of weird hours, closing the courts randomly, or just not letting people play. They have not been transparent with the members at all. This has been very frustrating as we were hoping to play more pickleball. Tennis is still very much functional as it doesn’t make as much noise. The general facilities outside of tennis, pool, and gym are in general disarray. As you can see from the pictures, random things are broken or closed, and they do a slow job at fixing things. The sauna was closed for weeks on end and the hot tub is currently closed. All in all, if you are going for pickle, for the love of all that is good, please go to bounce or the free east goshen park. They both have nets on their courts. I hope the pickleball court issues get resolved, but I will surely never know. As a final note, there was a topless woman who walked in on us in the co-ed sauna.
The nature center/area My son had his third grade field trip here today and it was beautifully presented and done and I highly recommend this facility overall, our youngest had swim lessons here several years ago and they did an amazing job.
I love the wide scope of activities for kids - from sports to nature and conservancy to arts and music - there is something for every child. I also love that the Y has a simple "old school vibe" reminiscent of my childhood in the 90s. Children are outdoors, enjoying nature and friends and away from screens. My daughter comes home sweaty and pleasantly exhausted from a summer day well-lived.
The Upper Main Line Y has gone downhill. You look around it now and think, "who made that change and thought it was a good idea?" They reorganized the fitness center making unnecessary and, frankly, not well thought out changes. The area to stretch, do free weights or floor exercises is directly in front of the office door and bathroom doors. Someone was doing box jumps directly in front of the women's bathroom door, and you're laying to stretch with people walking around you in and out of the office and bathroom. You're on the floor stretching and a personal trainer walks over you to get to their desk. This wouldn't be as frustrating if the power and conditioning room was still open, it was one of the best parts of the Y. But it closed for the swim team which is in school for over half the day anyway. The nu-step machine is no more, which was great for handicapped members. An inconsiderate decision towards people who are older or disabled. If you want to go to the gym to swing from cable column to cable column, this is the place for you. The new lights are incredibly bright, low, and conveniently located directly in front of the TVs. There's a useless and broken screen when you walk in telling you what exercise classes are already happening The sauna upstairs has been broken for weeks, maybe they're repairing the nails that would go into your back if you tried to lay down on a bench. Spend your money and time elsewhere. There are better Ys not in the Brandywine system.
Visiting the Upper Main Line YMCA is always a wonderful experience. There are many enjoyable activities available. I would highly recommend this location to my friends and colleagues!
