Big clean, new. Has so much to offer! Big parking lot. Large competition sized pool for lap swimming. Smaller recreation pool with lanes too, a play area for kids, and a ginormous slide. Hot tub in rec pool area. Clean and spacious locker rooms and a "family" changing room. Free licks for lockers. Gym. Exercise machines. Fitness room with yoga mats . Concessions area with coffee tea and snacks. Plus golfing needs and swim goggles. I get a free membership through my health insurance "One Pass" add-on to Medicare. Very friendly staff and people there today. What's not to love? A great investment by the City of Lake Oswego.
Very nice facility. Very clean. Ventilation is helpful with many fans. Far from regular routes traveled . Nice scenery during the day.
After years of planning, the Lake Oswego Recreation and Aquatics Center has finally opened. I visited the open house today and left a little disappointed. It’s modern and beautiful with fresh paint and lots of art installations to come, but as far as a recreation center, I was underwhelmed. There is only one smallish sized room for fitness classes, and the floors look to be hard laminate, not wood floors. There is not much in the Strength room, minimal cardio machines (7 treadmills, 2 ellipticals), very few weight machines. It feels more like a hotel fitness room. No TVs. The competition pool should work for high school meets but the small amount of seating there is pretty far away from the pool lanes. No diving boards in the recreational pool, and again it’s a small space. I can see this pool getting overwhelmed with kids very quickly. There are literally no places for parents to sit while their kids play in the pool. The locker rooms have rinse-off shower stalls and maybe 2 actual showers. No steam rooms or dry saunas. There is one small jacuzzi spa that serves the entire facility. Not clear how lockers are locked, no signage. The locker room floors are hard concrete, with no mats and no tile. The gym has room for 1 pickleball court and 1 volleyball court with lines in every color all over the floor. Not sure how that is going to work. The views off the patio to the lovely 9 hole golf course are nice, but they could use some kind of healthy snack/coffee shop there. Overall, I was surprised this wasn’t planned more robust to meet the needs of the community. It seemed to me like a missed opportunity, with a lot of frosting and very little cake.
The new LORAC is nice and new, but I must say it's smaller than I expected. I only saw one group fitness room, and the weight room seems large but mostly concentrates on weight lifting and treadmills, and has few machines. The leisure pool is small too. A big chunk of it is a kiddie pool, another chunk is the landing zone for the water slide. One more big chunk is 3 lap lanes, and what's left is a small hallway-shaped area for just enjoying the pool. It looks like it would get extremely crowded. I assume the deeper part won't always be roped off this way, but there's no info on that plan as far as I could tell. I hope they'll have the competition pool available for the public to do laps or free swim when LOSD isn't using it. It's very large. 3 categories of fitness classes are free with membership, and the rest you have to sign up for a la carte with parks and rec and pay extra for. Currently we're members at Mountain Park and the LORAC is way less expensive, but feels like it has a lot less amenities which I guess makes sense. I urge you to tour it before deciding on a membership because the photos on the website make everything look larger than it is in person imo.
It’s great having such a well-equipped gym right here in Lake Oswego. The facility is always clean, the staff are friendly and professional, and they’ve got all the equipment I need for a complete workout. A huge plus for the community.
