I agree with the reviewers and the facility is well maintained by students who are very friendly and helpful. I participate in the intramural indoor and outdoor soccer for three years and enjoyed the program and experience! I also use the pool and spa which is very clean and organized by the lifeguards. The gym equipments are up to dates and plenty of them to use without having to wait for your turn. Overall I rate the place the best rec center and gym I have used in the Portland area!
Great resource for students. I wonder if body positivity classes or private rooms may help with queer or others anxious about exercising in public. The former seems to be more practical and wholesome as it can teach people to trust others and comfortable & safe in existing in their bodies.
Absolutely ridiculous that I pay close to $30k a year to go to school here, but I can’t use the rec center over the summer unless I take summer classes. Not only that, if I would have to pay EXTRA to use the rec center during the summer. Do you seriously need that extra $44 from me after forcing me to pay the astronomical out of state tuition even though I’ve been a permanent resident for 3 years? So incredibly disappointing, PSU.
Great value and flexibility for students, students taking time off of school, and alumni. I rely on you guys to keep my anxiety at bay, and I am endlessly grateful for the staff and maintenance! The pool deck is one of the cleanest I’ve ever seen, and the filtration system must be amazing because I almost never run into other people’s hair or debris. The hot tub is really clean as well and chlorine levels are maintained perfectly. The new mats have removed the rotten egg smell I was experiencing every time I walked in. The magnetic lockers can bug out sometimes but generally keep people’s stuff safe. Love yall!
Not a well-run operation overall. Poor communication around facility closures (such as being closed for Juneteenth without any notice on the website). The summer operating hours are a total joke as they are only open for FOUR hours on the weekends (10-2 on Saturdays). If it wasn’t super cheap on the account of being a PSU alum I would have looked elsewhere by now.
