The Mukwonago YMCA, located at 245 E Wolf Run, Mukwonago, WI, is a comprehensive community wellness center offering a wide range of facilities and programs. It typically includes a modern fitness center with cardio and strength equipment, a gymnasium for various sports, diverse group exercise classes, and extensive aquatic facilities. The Family or Warm Water Pool, used for recreational swimming, lessons, and therapy, is typically kept warmer, around 86-88 degrees Fahrenheit.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Overall, reviews for this YMCA are mixed, highlighting both strong positive aspects and significant areas for improvement. Many members praise the welcoming, respectful, and family-like environment, where people encourage one another and judgment is absent. The child watch staff receives exceptional commendation for their kindness and engagement, making kids excited to attend. Some appreciate the modern equipment in the weight area and the availability of diverse classes, noting the positive impact on mental well-being. However, several critical issues were raised, particularly regarding the facility's cleanliness and upkeep, with mentions of dirty/stained furniture, carpets, and unsanitary conditions in the pool, hot tub, and women's locker room showers (drain flies). The pool itself is described as cold, small, and frequently shut down due to contamination or limited lane availability. Equipment availability in the weight room is a concern, with requests for duplicate machines and specific types of squat and calf raise machines. Communication and customer service also present problems, including an inaccurate website for swim lessons that the registration desk reportedly refuses to correct, leading to members paying for unreceived classes. Some experiences with management and a personal trainer were negative, citing rudeness, arbitrary rule changes, and lack of trainer knowledge. Suggestions for improvement include enhanced cleaning protocols, more diverse equipment, a sauna, and a salt water pool.

Great and clean facility. The members here are very respectful and social. The weight area has modern equipment that is all in great shape. The pool area is pretty loud during zumba time so the splash pad area is kind of overwhelming but that's just the nature of that area and what time you go at. The child watch staff has been amazing!! They are absolutely the sweetest things ever. My kids are always so excited to go to this YMCA because in their words "everyone is happy." One of the girls there has braided both of my daughters hair a couple times ❤️
They could use a few duplicate workout machines like leg extensions and seated bench press. They only have one of each so you usually have to wait. They need a seated calf raise machine. It would also be nice if they could get a type of squat machine that doesn't compress the spine like a belt squat machine or a pivot squat machine.
Fix your website. The website states there are swim lessons on July 5th, but there weren't. The registration desk said it's too hard to fix the website so they leave the wrong information out there. When I signed up for the lessons they did not show any off days so I paid for a session but not getting the full number of lessons I signed up for. Due to our vacations I would not have signed up for this session if I had known the we would be "missing" another lesson.
I absolutely love the YMCA!! I love being able to workout at my own pace, I love that I never feel judgement from others or body shamed in any way. I feel like the ymca is ran more like a family environment I’ve seen people that don’t even know each other encourage one another or check on them to make sure they are okay. I love the classes and the fact that I can try each one without a huge commitment and I like that it’s easier to make acquaintances when you are in classes. The ymca is not only transforming my body it is also helping me heal my mind from past trauma…helping me cope better with my anxiety and overall just makes me feel good! My only negative is the bathroom could be kept cleaner it gets slippery with all the water from people coming in from the pool and sometimes the restrooms need to be picked up. To me the only thing that would make the ymca better is a sauna but that’s just my personal preference and maybe a salt water pool to get away from chemicals and salt water has healing properties.
Was nice once upon a time, back when it opened, but that was almost a decade ago & it hasnt been kept up at all. All ymcas have community classes & none charge additional for their classes, they are all included with your membership & this one is no different than all the others in that respect & i like ymca's because of what they offer, but as ymca facilities go this one is run down. The furniture in the waiting area is dirty & stained as is the carpet. The pool & hot tub are dirty, & the most disgusting thing is the womens locker room showers are full of drain flies. The pool is very cold (even cheap hotel pools are better heated) & its small with only has 4 lap lanes, half of which are usually closed for lessons so you are lucky if you get a lane. The kids section has a small waterslide which is what attracts people but the recreation pool itself is small too & is frequently shut down due to water contamination issues. The weighr/equipment area lacks a lot of equipment even basic cheaper gyms like planet fitness have, but if you want a treadmill this is the place!.They advertise a free hour session with a personal trainer, my spouse had a good experince with this & said he was shown a lot of equipment from his trainer. The woman i met seemed more concerned with herself. She wasnt knowlegable on how to train when someone has recovered from very basic/common injuries like IT band issues & after a 10 min talk she left & hadnt shown me one piece of equpiment. I decided to go workout & saw that she had left our appointment to go workout on her own. Lastly the staff is very rude, the younger staff at the front desk are polite enough, & havent had to talk to a lifeguard to have an issue there, but the managment staff os rude & pushy & decide to change rules as they see fit which contradict what is clearly posted on the ymca website. All of the waukesha county ymcas are included with a membership & have better facilities & staff then this location.
