Admiral Prout Field House Outdoor Pool, also known as the National City Aquatics Center, is a community outdoor swimming facility located in National City, CA. It provides a venue for recreational swimming, lap swimming, and various aquatic programs, typically operating on a seasonal schedule.
The outdoor pool at Admiral Prout Field House is generally heated to maintain comfortable swimming conditions for its users, but specific temperature details are not consistently published for public access.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The facility offers an Olympic-sized swimming pool, though there are conflicting reports on its length configuration; some perceive it as 50m, while others use or desire 25m lanes, noting a cross-pool setup for usage. The pool is generally well-equipped for swim workouts with accessories like fins and kickboards. The associated 'Admiral Prout's field house' includes a small gym with treadmills, a stretching room, a pull-up/dip bar, kettlebells, and bikes. The deep end is noted at 14 feet, potentially suitable for scuba practice. However, the pool is known for unpredictable closures due to cleaning, repairs, or training, making planning difficult. Mornings (6-8 AM) can be crowded as rescue swimmers use reserved lanes for training. While weekday hours are convenient, the facility is closed on weekends. Criticisms also include the poor condition of locker rooms and showers, and the sauna and hot tub appearing to be permanently closed. Lane width can be restrictive, making more than two swimmers per lane unadvisable in some configurations.

Call ahead to make sure they are actually open. This pool is unfortunately renown for randomly closing for cleaning, repairs, or training. All understandable, but makes it difficult to actually plan a swim into your schedule. Also the rescue swimmers use it as their primary training spot in the mornings, so half of the lanes are reserved for their use leaving it crowded from 6-8AM.
Decent pool to get a swim workout in. They have 25 meter lanes with a good amount of equipment you can use such as fins, kickboards, pool buoys, and other swim accessories. There is a pull up/dip bar off in the corner with a little area you can do sit ups and such. There are a couple kettlebells and bikes as well. Overall this is a decent pool I just wish they set up 50 meter lanes.
One of the few 50m pools in San Diego! Great pool, but the locker room and showers are not in very good shape. And the sauna & hot tub seem to be permanently closed now. That's a bummer.
The weekday hours are great, but closed weekends. The cross pool setup is good for greatest usage, but wish the deep end was more than 20 yards wide. Lane width at the 25 yard point makes usage by more than 2 swimmers per lane not recommended or allowable.
Admiral Prout's field house is a small gym with treadmills (about five or six), a stretching room and an Olympic size swimming pool. There may be free weights but I tried the pool out. There are cordoned off pool markers in the middle that will accommodate three regulation lanes, and two lanes, one on either side of the three lanes, that can accommodate two swim lanes. The shallower side of the pool is about four feet while the deep end is 14 feet. Could be available for scuba practice and minimal certification. The space is about 50 feet long length and width.
