What are people saying (AI review summary)? This pool generally receives positive feedback, particularly for its private dressing rooms (a standout feature), enormous slides for kids, ample and long (semi-Olympic) lanes, overall cleanliness, and affordability. Lap swim is highly regarded, and staff are noted as friendly and helpful. However, several drawbacks were mentioned: recreational swim hours are often inconvenient or inconsistent, requiring patrons to call ahead to confirm as online information can be misleading. Showers are described as basic, with issues like smearing ink and no storage space. There are also complaints about inconsistent rule enforcement and some 'senseless' rules (e.g., restrictions on swim fins or sinking toys, wearing glasses on slides). Additionally, some users observed that water quality can decline during busy summer/recreational swim times.

This is utterly an awesome unit, private dressing rooms in all other San Diego pools, dressing areas are common, slides for kids are enormous, lanes are enough for all patrons you rarely need to share, and they are long I think they're semy Olympic. Carmel valley is a beautiful place, and Swimming pool is also.
Make sure you check recreational swim Hours. Google shows only the hours of lap swim. We came on a Sunday and the rec swimming doesn’t open until 12:30. It’s summer in San Diego, not sure why it can’t be open sooner. Also, most pools aren’t even open on Sundays- mind boggling to me.
The pool is very nice and clean but the showers are a bit lame. The blue ink on the shower curtains is smearing off everywhere and there's nowhere to put shower stuff, so it's best for just a quick rinse. Or rinse by the pool. Definitely call to double check hours before going
The pool is really nice, especially for a city pool. You can't beat $4 for adults, $2 for kids. Rules are enforced a little inconsistently. I need my glasses to safely walk pretty much anywhere and they let me hold them going down the waterslide the first 8 times. Later, a new guard is there and I can't have them with me. My daughter can't use her swim fins in the pool. You can't use the sinking toys that you grab off the pool bottom. Why?!? Overall good experience, but some rules are senseless.
Lap swim is great. Same pool as rec swim so the water wasn't as clean in the summer. I swim at a lot of different public pools and this one had less clean water more often. Overall though good pool and locker rooms were clean. Staff friendly and helpful.
