My family has been coming here for years. Great gymnastics programs for my niece, awesome gym that has indoor and outdoor facilities. Nothing like getting a great workout in the sun. Nice pools spa and even a water play area for the kids.
We do enjoy the gym itself - however - after realizing the experience for children at the Summer camp, I will never send my children there. The very first day of camp, they apparently only had one camp counselor, so during that persons “lunch period” of 30-60 min they made all the kids sit in a small room and told them they couldn’t speak. That they were to “meditate”. No speaking, no play, just sit. For the camp leader’s lunch period. Frankly for all the ymca has to offer and all that is promised for these summer camps, this is wrong. Very disappointed. We definitely had higher expectations for the Y.
The whole family loves this location. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Facility is clean and well equipped with work out machines. Family swim hours could help more lines in the pool, but overall very positive experience with Copley-Price YMCA. And they often organize free family events that kids enjoy.
Avoid this YMCA. Get your monthly membership elsewhere. Copley-Price Family YMCA is very poorly managed. You never see any leadership mixing with members, it seems they are too busy in their offices. Overall, there is absolutely no respect for the Customer Experience, the facility is filthy, smells, and staff are a joke. 1. They are replacing 20-30 year equipment, closing the fitness area FOR THREE DAYS!!!! Any other facility would complete the task overnight, but not the Y. They would rather inconvenience paying members for THREE DAYS. It's absolutely outrageous!!! (See picture) 2. Management closes the popular Meditation Room regularly for staff events when the Community Room, the Coffee Bar area, and other rooms are available. Management would rather inconvenient paying members than manage the facility correctly. (See picture of recent event) 3. Front Desk staff 4-6 individuals at any given time are on their cell phones, gossiping, slouching in their chairs daily. No, Hello, no goodbye, nothing!!! 4. Fitness Floor staff are a pathetic. They are always behind the desk staring at the computer. You ask for assistance and they act like they are being bothered. Some of them couldn't save you in the event of an emergency. For example, Eza walks around pretending to count people, his clothes don't fit, he bends over, and you see his arse, etc. Other floor staff are similar in their overall presentation. 5. The facility is filthy, dust everywhere, bathroom stained toilets, takes weeks for repairs of equipment and restroom facilities. Management has ONE outsourced facility hygiene individual for the ENTIRE FACILITY!!!! Absolutely no YMCA staff cleans or tidys up the facility. Just completely uncalled for. 6. 70-80% of staff are not Health or Fitness focused, most would be considered obese. So much for leading by example. Bottome line, I have never seen any manager visible or interacting randomly with members. No name badges, no information center with pictures outlining Management for Members to review. Just because this YMCA is in an socially and economically disadvantage area doesn't mean the Customer Experience should reflect such. Avoid this YMCA. Get your monthly membership elsewhere.
My 2 star review doesn't really reflect poorly on the staff. Most of the staff I have interacted with have been courteous and friendly. My biggest complaint is with the equipment, which is regularly out of service. - In 2024 there were only 2 stairmaster machines, and one of them was out of commission for almost 4 months. You can imagine how impossible it was to find this machine empty. - They recently revamped the equipment, but now 1 of the 2 peloton bikes has been out of commission since 5/19 (It's 6/11 as of this posting). Here's the hoping it doesn't take until September to get it fixed - I asked about the TRX install in early 2023 and was told they had the equipment on hand, but it took them until mid 2024 to get the brackets mounted for them Since I've been a member here over the past 3 years, my 2 person membership fees have gone from ~$94 up to $107/mo. I have been shopping around for another gym, and I see other options in Mission Valley with monthly rates closer to $30-40/mo. If it wasn't a convenient bike ride for me, I probably would have ended my membership a lot sooner.
