The Dan McKinney Family YMCA features two heated pools. One pool is designated and heated for lap swimming, typically maintained at a comfortable, cooler temperature for exercise. The second pool is heated for recreation, family fun, and swim lessons, generally kept at a warmer temperature for comfort and accessibility. Specific pool temperatures in degrees are not publicly detailed online.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? This YMCA facility generally receives high praise for its new, clean, and beautiful environment, featuring a very nice outdoor pool and jacuzzi area, excellent locker rooms, and a well-appointed, though sometimes small, workout area. Members appreciate the variety of group fitness classes, activities, and the scenic views, with unique benefits like discounted memberships for those on assistance and trial passes for San Diego County residents. However, common complaints include frequent equipment breakdowns (such as the sauna, spa, pools, and hot water) and a confusing app interface. Customer service, especially regarding membership cancellations, is often criticized for being unhelpful, unprofessional, and leading to unauthorized charges, with members advised to document all interactions.

It's a very nice facility to join as far as indoor gyms go. It has a very nice outdoor pool and jacuzzi area which is very much busy with a huge amount of swimming lanes and swimming lessons and children's activities and all kinds of things like that. One of the nicest things is that it is a new and beautiful facility with a small workout area in general upstairs but it's a very nice workout area and if you are on any type of assistance ... social security or you have food stamps you can apply for a discounted (with a possibility of a complete Grant to cover the entire cost of a membership) membership that is good at all the YMCA's which all are very nice lately .. many of them have been remodeled and they take a lot of time and care to keep these new facilities clean and also they provide many nice amenities. Residents of the County of San Diego are entitled to claim 2 passes a year and so you can try one two times or try two different ones they don't have to be back to back ... you can do one in the spring and one in the fall ... they are very easy going about it and it is a nice way to spend the day especially if you're trying to decide to join a gym! They have nice locker rooms excellent showers excellent bathrooms, and an area to do your hair and get ready for the day if you go before work and a lovely way to wind down after work! The only thing that I thought could be improved was today is not easy to navigate at this particular YMCA your way through reserving a basketball court or finding a class it's a little bit chaotic the way the workout area is upstairs and it's not very large, but I'm sure that the staff would be able to help with any of those questions.
During my time as a member there were lots of technical issues ranging from the sauna being broken to the hot water in the showers being down. In addition, I found their app interface to be confusing and unhelpful. When I went to submit a request to cancel my membership via the app I didn't realize nothing happened with that information and the membership never was cancelled. Nor was I sent confirmation that this request was received or acknowledged. To my own fault it took me 2 months to realize I was still being charged. When I requested a refund from Brian I was met with a brick wall of unprofessionalism where he responded to my refund request by charging me for an additional month. Their IT issues and unclear processes became my responsibility to defend and then they just stopped responding. If you don't need adequate customer service then this facility should suit you fine. If you need to cancel your membership, take screenshots. You'll need them in order to get in touch with anyone helpful. So incredibly disappointing.
Awesome facilities. Relatively newer than the other YMCA location in San Diego. Can only speak to the group fitness class. It is not crowded and the instructor quality is okay. Unbeatable sunset view from the gym!
It is such a shame that such a fantastic facility always has something not working. Spa has been down for weeks. Lap pool has been down off and on and rec pool also. Last month was the sauna. Spare parts might be helpful.
Such a nice gym, pools, sauna, etc. The weight area is a tad small and missing a couple pieces but still a VERY well setup YMCA.
