Basic pool facility with a kids' area and bleachers, also hosting water polo teams.
The competition pool is maintained at 80°F (26.7°C), the shallow-water teaching/therapy pool at 89°F (31.7°C), and the spa at 102°F (38.9°C).
What are people saying (AI review summary)? This swimming facility is appreciated for its local convenience, warm water, and a friendly, classic 'neighborhood' atmosphere, with some patrons valuing its simple, sporty, and dated charm. However, it faces significant criticism for poor maintenance, including dirty locker rooms, broken equipment, leaky valves, and a lack of basic amenities like soap and trash receptacles. Patrons also report a consistent lack of rule enforcement regarding pre-swim showering, student belongings, and occasional issues with staff conduct like loud music or unhelpful personnel. Historically, its development was a long and considerably expensive process.

Visited this facility when it was new. Had to chuckle because over the years, a pool for polo/swimming events was requested. At first (1960's-1970's) the projected cost varied around $70,000-$110,000. Then, during the 1980's, the projected cost increased to $1.3 million. FINALLY, it was deemed expensive enough to actually come to fruition, at a cost of almost $3 million! So, in the end, it cost about 40 times more than originally projected, and Carlsbad HAD no scholastic aquatics, except for the Surf Team. (Of which, I was a part of.) Anyway, it's nice to have a swimming facility, without having to trek to the Boys/Girls Club downtown. (Even tho, it's being refurbished currently.) Probably at a cost far more that it cost to build!
Meh... The remodeling will be nice in a couple years, but it's sad they don't bother maintaining the place until then. - dirty lockers - no rules enforcement - no trash receptacles in lobby or locker rooms - showering prior to entering the pool is NOT required 😖 - lifeguards playing loud music - card scanner NEVER works Most lifeguards are friendly and attentive, showers have always been warm, Pool water temp is usually good.
A throwback to the 60's with a real "neighborhood" feeling about it. Many opportunities to actually engage in pleasant conversations. Parents with small children have a good-sized, shallow area to use. Water temp is just right for serious exercising or just relaxing. While open until 7:00 pm, Best to get there before 3:45 pm water polo practices.
a really awesome pool, simple, clean and sporty, going there it's like riding a well maintained classic car, it's dated but it's awesome. Dear city managers, please don't change it, save it as is
No soap in shower for 3+ weeks, broken equipment, staff brought over from Alga Norte is awful (should be fired), leaky valves for weeks on end ($$$), and the HS kids leave their bags lying around. No enforcement of rules.
