Spacious fitness center with multiple pools and tennis courts.
Specific pool temperatures for Windy Hill Athletic Club are not publicly advertised or readily available. Athletic clubs often maintain their indoor pools in a comfortable range, typically between 80-84°F (27-29°C) for lap swimming and recreational use, with therapy or warm-up pools potentially higher.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? WHAC receives mixed reviews, often contrasting strong positive aspects with significant drawbacks. Members consistently praise the excellent childcare, 'Kidtown,' highlighting its engaging activities, screen-free environment, and the kindness of its staff. The gym is generally noted for its cleanliness (especially locker rooms), friendly staff, and high-quality, non-intimidating classes, with ample cardio equipment. Many appreciate the low-pressure sales process and the initial spaciousness. However, critical issues frequently arise regarding maintenance and value for money. There are recurring complaints about hot water outages, monthly sauna and steam room breakdowns, falling tiles, black mold above showers, and non-flushing toilets. Equipment repair is often slow, and specific weight training equipment is sometimes missing or difficult to access due to classes, personal trainers, and increasing member traffic. The cafe's food quality is often criticized as subpar with frequent stock issues. Many members feel the continually rising membership fees (6-12% annually) do not match the perceived declining quality and persistent maintenance problems, leading to a sense that the gym is overpriced, especially for those who primarily work out independently and don't fully utilize all amenities like classes or tennis. Some long-term members are actively seeking alternatives despite initial satisfaction.
Reviews
WHAC is whack! I’ve been a member for almost three years, and today the hot water is out yet again…the third (maybe fourth) time this year. Each time, it takes more than a day to fix. On top of that, the steam room breaks down about once a month, tiles constantly fall off and get glued back on only to fall again the first day it reopens, there’s black mold above the showers, and the toilets often don’t flush fully, leaving them unusable. Meanwhile, membership fees keep climbing 6–12% a year while the quality keeps dropping. At this point, it’s barely better than a budget gym, and those often have more equipment. For what they’re charging, it’s creeping way too close to Life Time territory, without the Life Time quality. They’ve been promising renovations for years. Yes, climate controlled indoor tennis is finally happening, but expect an extra fee. And let’s be honest: new treadmills aren’t “renovations.” I’m still a member (for now), but actively looking elsewhere. For this price, you can get multiple memberships and a far better experience. Think twice before joining.
Kidtown is great, the teachers and activities are wonderful (no screens or TV, just crafts, coloring, and toys). Our daughter loves going there. The sauna and steam room are not working once a month or so. The cafe’s food is subpar, often missing items in salads, or out of food and/or drinks. The staff members are very friendly, and the locker rooms are always clean.
I am truly enjoying my experience here & am so happy they offer such excellent child care so that I feel great about leaving my kiddo. This is my kids first time away from me and the ladies have been so patient and kind to him, I can’t say enough good this about them! The gym is always very clean and I’ve enjoyed taking a few classes so far. I’m also really excited to attend the Tennis in No Time clinic soon too! As a first time mom, joining WH has been the best decision ever for my mental and physical health!
Writing this for anyone who is considering signing up here and plans to primarily work out on their own. I've been working out here for about a year and a half now. This is the first luxury gym I've been a member of and I loved it at first. It's spacious, lots of class options, and tons of amenities. The staff was friendly and helpful. If you are someone who primarily wants to attend classes here, then you can skip the rest of this review and ignore the two stars. I've tried many of the classes and they are a nice option, but I primarily do my own thing at the gym so this review is focused on that experience. For as big as the space is, there actually isn't that much weight training equipment. Unless you plan to workout at the crack of dawn or right before closing, chances are a good chunk of the equipment on the turf or in the "pit" will be reserved for a class and/or in use by a personal trainer, leaving everyone else to fight over what little remains open. There is a posted class schedule which you can look at to know when spaces you want to use will be open, but the personal trainers will often use multiple pieces of popular equipment at once to superset with their trainees and there is no predicting this. Over time as new members have joined this problem has become exasperated. It's getting busier and busier and it's now common that I'm unable to get the more popular equipment like the squat racks or benches for more than half an hour. There are things that are strangely missing. For example, there are no pieces of equipment dedicated to calves, which I've never seen before in a gym. It also takes forever for equipment to be repaired - one of the two smith machines has been broken for over a month now. If you plan to use mainly cardio equipment, you should be fine as there are plenty of treadmills, stairclimbers, and elliptical machines. Overall, I would call this a three star experience, but I'm giving it two stars because it's so pricey. Unless you are planning to take full advantage of the classes, tennis facilities, or the pool, it is NOT worth the money to workout here. The reason I haven't cancelled my membership yet is because the only other options near here are Planet Fitness and LA Fitness. For any entrepreneurs reading this, the Cumberland area is an absolutely ripe market to open a gym.
I’m a new member, and so far I’m really pleased. The sales process was low pressure, and Corey helped us find a solution for me starting my membership before adding my husband on in the coming months. The facilities are clean, the classes (so far) are top tier without being intimidating, and evening during the post-work “rush,” I don’t feel like the gym gets too busy to navigate.
