MIT Recreation - Swim Lessons, located at 120 Vassar St, Cambridge, MA, offers a comprehensive program of group and private swim lessons for all ages and skill levels. Utilizing the Zesiger Center pools, the program focuses on developing water safety, improving stroke technique, and fostering a love for swimming in a structured and supportive environment.
The Zesiger Center pools, where MIT Recreation's swim lessons are held, typically maintain the lap pool temperature between 80-82 degrees Fahrenheit. Additionally, a warm water pool is available and generally kept at approximately 88-90 degrees Fahrenheit.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The facility is highly praised as an amazing, clean, spacious, and modern sports center, often called the 'best facility in Boston.' It's noted for its excellent swimming lessons, with instructors like Stef receiving specific commendation for their quality teaching and engaging methods, leading to significant improvement for students. It's generally friendly for non-MIT members and offers day passes. However, several concerns are raised: 'post-covid' price increases for non-MIT members and additional charges for towel service are seen as unjustified, leading to questions about cost-effectiveness. MIT postdocs also find the annual membership fee excessively high compared to other institutions. Minor quirks include fluctuating shower water temperatures and the teaching pool being too cold for toddler classes, with complaints unaddressed. Users are also advised to bring their own lock.

An amazing facility, which is super friendly for non-MiT people. Make sure to bring your own lock! Edit: “Post” covid, the non-MIT prices went up and the towel service became an additional expense, something I cannot fathom to justify. It’s still the best facility in Boston, but one has to think twice about the cost-effectiveness of it.
Greatly improved my swimming taking group lessons here. Took a handful of classes. Great instructors. Serious lessons from beginner to advanced, makes you feel like you're getting quality instruction, unlike the average lesson at a Y. Awesome clean spacious facility.
The facility seems modern but sometimes there are annoying quirks, like the water in the showers fluctuating in temperature. The water in the teaching pool is kept cold during toddler classes for some reason. my son keeps shivering. Complaining didn't help. In my opinion they charge MIT postdocs way too much for a membership. The annual fee is ~$500 while at Harvard postdocs pay $30 annually!!!
My favourite thing to do at MIT outside of research. I love Stef, the swimming instructor. Hands down the best swimming instruction -- she's so fun, so good at teaching and always mixes it up w different strokes. Thank you for teaching me how to swim, Stef! You ROCK.
Great place to get a one day pass for $8 with student ID and $15 without. This sports facility has some great place to workout and play sports.
