Part of the YMCA chain that provides sports facilities such as a swimming pool and basketball court, along with fitness classes for kids and adults.
The Thomas M. Menino YMCA features two distinct pools within its aquatics center: a warm-water instructional pool and a lap pool. While exact temperatures are not publicly listed, YMCA warm-water instructional pools are typically maintained around 88-90°F (approximately 31-32°C) for comfort during lessons and therapeutic activities. The lap pool is generally kept cooler, usually around 80-84°F (approximately 26-29°C), which is ideal for fitness swimming and laps.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews praise the fitness facilities, particularly the Menino Y in Hyde Park, for offering great fitness classes, new cardio equipment, and weights. Members appreciate the clean pools with lap swim and various swim lessons, with Huguette’s yoga classes being highly recommended for their welcoming environment. Facilities are noted as clean and generally not overcrowded during specific times. While some locations focus on minimal equipment for functional movements, a common positive is the staff's friendliness and, for one reviewer, a significant improvement in racial competence over time. Kids enjoy activities like basketball, pickleball, and swim lessons, though there's a desire for more diverse toddler and kid programs like soccer or gymnastics. A key benefit mentioned is the ability for members to access other facility locations and their class offerings.

The available workout equipment is intentionally minimal, designed to emphasize core, functional movements that anyone can master. Interestingly, the adults participating often don’t adhere to conventional gym attire, opting for comfortable casual clothing instead. This approach can seem unorthodox, and no matrix curling bars
The Menino Y in Hyde Park offers great fitness classes, new cardio equipment and weights. Nice clean pool with lap swim and swim lessons. Kids enjoy playing basketball and pickle ball in the gym. I highly recommend Huguette’s yoga classes! Great all levels vinyasa flow in a welcoming environment.
In the beginning, it was a little challenging being African-American and going into the gym. I expect a racially competent environment however, now as I’ve been going here for almost a year, they have become much more friendly to me. The staff the people that come in and I think that’s very important. Life is already full of hardships. The last thing we need is people at the gym, making it even more harder. however, I like the front desk team that they have now and I feel it’s becoming more better shoutout to the pool manager !!
I have been a member at the YMCA in Hyde Park for about 2 years now and enjoy using the facility. I workout in the morning or at lunch for a quick hour and never feel like it’s overcrowded or I cant use a machine or weights. I love that i can get in an out. The facility is clean and i really like that they have a good offering of swimming classes for kids. I wish they had more toddler/kid programs like soccer or gymnastics. For kid classes i usually have to check out another location. The perk is once your a member you can use the other facilities and sign for classes for yourself and your kids.
My daughter was invited through her school New beginning academy. She is always excited to attend every week and has nothing but good things to say about the lessons. Thank you!
