The therapy (small) pool is down for a pump issue and the big pool is set up long course, so only 10 lanes. There are swim teams and lessons and special reservations all the time but nowhere do they post this. So you show up and *maybe* you’ll get to swim. Today I showed up at 3p after checking both Facebook and the website to find this sign on the door. It’s really frustrating to come out to the pool and not even get to swim. The facility is great. The employees are hit or miss. The communication about availability definitely needs improvement!
I can’t say enough about the staff and facilities at North Charleston Aquatic Center. They are truly oriented towards serving the people and are genuinely dedicated to providing the best possible experience for all. All staff members are courteous and selfless in their service. The facility is always kept in ship-shape. I honestly believe that they love providing a venue for water sports so much that they would do it for free, because I know that the city could not possibly afford to pay them for the effort and heart that they give. Three Cheers for North Charleston Aquatic Center! Hip-Hip-HOORAY! Hip-Hip-HOORAY! Hip-Hip-HOORAY!
*BE AWARE I am a competitive swimmer, that has swim meets here every once in a while. The facility is beautiful, but EVERY SINGLE TIME I swim here, I get a PAINFUL RASH and I know it has HAPPENED TO OTHERS as well. I DO NOT have sensitive skin, am NOT allergic to anything (that I know of). This is the ONLY place that this has ever happened to me, and I have swam in hundreds of pools. I let it go the first couple times, but this is like the FIFTH TIME it has happened. PLEASE be aware before getting in the pool.
A well managed and clean facility. Lap swim and open swim times, $5 for non members per use
Great size! They have two major sides : training pool and competition pool. Right now with Covid though there are restrictions. No showers. That was a bummer. You can share a pool but not a shower area? Masks area required until you are at the pool. Anyone on the competition side wears masks unless in the water. Free swim is happening but limited to 30 persons at a time. Plenty of space to spread out.
