OMG - 5 Saturdays later - My 10 year old son & I are almost scuba certified!! We are over the moon excited about his new hobby/venture and the people (our new Scuba Family) at Open Water Adventures have been awesome! Mr. Reggie, Mr. Jeremy, Mr. Bryan, Ms. Marcela & Scuba Joe know almost everything there is to know about scuba and made the lessons, experience, pool time, and equipment purchases so warm, welcoming, inviting, and fun! From scuba dive trips, to all the pictures of the marine life on the wall, to the scuba stories - my son and I felt like we will soon be part of the Blue Planet/National Geographics. To anyone - 10 years old and up - I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the whole team! Everyone was great and we are excited to now be part of the Charlotte Scuba Family! Can't wait to head to Florida Springs in April for our checkout dive & night dive! Beware before buying a package. I bought my son a scuba diving package for Christmas last year. He has mild asthma so I was told he needs medical clearance. Due to other sports he was involved in we couldn’t get in until June to get cleared by family doctor. On July 9th we went to shop got fitted for his gear and set up his account to do his online modules. On August 9th (30 days later) I received a call that he needed to get medical clearance from a different doctor that specializes in diving. We saw that doctor on August 26 who then referred him to a pulmonologist. October 7th saw the pulmonologist and had his PFT done. The pulmonologist denied him medically from diving. I have the medical denial from the dive specialist that Joe the owner referred him too. I called to ask for a refund for the gear and lessons (not for a full refund since he did complete online lessons). Joe would only refund me for dive lessons and refused to take back unused gear because it had been greater than 30 days since purchased. It was 30 days after I purchased gear before I was even told to see the dive specialist nor do my receipts say anything about a 30 day refund policy. I followed his protocol and did everything that was asked from the staff at Open Water and spend more money for 2 specialist doctors appointments only for him to deny a refund for the gear, not because my son didn’t want to dive but because he was MEDICALLY DENIED!! Although I’m thankful they made him go through the clearance I’m not happy with his return policies or his protocol. Before selling a package to someone with medical conditions they should first have them cleared by the specialist first or at least guarantee a refund if they are medically denied.

My husband and I completed the classes to become SCUBA certified this fall and did our checkout dives in November 2023. Our instructors (Reggie Smith and Jeremy Hill) were awesome! Both were patient and always willing to work with us to improve our skills. The staff at the shop are always supportive and take the time to answer our questions and address any concerns. We just returned from a trip to Bonaire with our instructors and over a dozen other divers. It was an amazing experience, not just the diving, but comrodery everyone who went and their willingness to help us be better divers. The group shared videos and pictures so that was one less thing we had to worry about. We already signed up for next year's trip. Would highly recommend if you are interested in diving.
Seems to be a really great place! A friend of mine who is a much more experienced diver took us there to purchase supplies for our first dive in December. They have a indoor dive school, repair facility, a really nice retail store, and the owner Joe was incredibly helpful. He didn't push us into the most high priced equipment, and you can tell he's a professional diver as well. He knows his equipment, the conditions where we're going to go dive, and gave great advice across the whole experience on what equipment might be better for certain kinds of diving. He was incredibly personable, very friendly, obviously passionate about his trade, and come to find out we're going to see him in December because we're going to dive the same place at the same week! I'd highly recommend his store.
