Gym and rec center offering cardio equipment, weights, a pool and courts for basketball, plus a hot tub and sauna.
The main pool at the AFC is typically maintained at 79-80 degrees Fahrenheit, while the Instructional Pool is kept warmer, usually between 83-84 degrees Fahrenheit.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The athletic center is largely praised as a great, recently renovated facility, offering a clean and extensive range of recreation options including a huge gym with multiple basketball courts, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and a full assortment of modern cardio and weight equipment, plus a mini bookstore. While the facilities are highly regarded and mornings are recommended for less crowded workouts, a major point of contention is the parking, which is widely criticized as expensive, problematic, and a 'money grab.' The center can also become overcrowded, with some users finding social media filming distracting.

Parking here is an absolute joke. It’s outrageous that we already pay ridiculous student fees, and on top of that, Parking and Transportation still hounds us like vultures. The whole setup feels like a money grab. The facility itself is constantly overcrowded, and it’s hard to focus with influencers and social media clout-chasers filming themselves everywhere. It’s not the student gym experience we deserve—just a frustrating one.

Very nice and clean space, filled with all kinds of recreation stuff.
Great athletic center. I envy the UVA students. If you go to rec swim, you will see a lot of non-varsity talent. Swimmers I met worked me really hard - which is what I wanted.
They just renovated so everything is very new and nice. Their weight room is pretty nice and they have a really nice pool. It is usually more busy at night so if you are looking to get a good workout in with less people going in the morning would be your best bet.
