Colorado Swim School says they cater to autistic and special needs kiddos. What they mean is, they will take kids who can complete lessons according to their methods and will not accommodate kids who need more time and patience. My non verbal level 2 autistic child loves water. I put her in lessons in hopes of increasing safety awareness. The layout of the facility and how quick of an expected progression of swimmers made the experience distressing. My child was refusing to go near water after lessons because she was so terrified of being put into a pool against her will. I had to take her to our local pool and regain her trust that no one was going to force her to do anything. I should have talked with the manager but after a couple emails back and forth with staff, it didnt seem worth the effort. I dont think the coaches did anything wrong per se, they were following their understanding of how swim lessons go for kids. But it showed that they in fact arent educated and equipped to handle special needs and sensitive kids. I hope they can learn to focus on trust and rapport building with these specific populations.

Excellent swim school! We have 2 kiddos that take classes here and they are professional and calm with kids. We especially appreciate that they've got plenty of experience with kids with special need. Very kind and accommodating.

LOVE CSS!!! I have ZERO complaints after 2+ years of consistent swim lessons. My daughter had the same instructor for 2 years before she graduated to a new instructor/level. When compared to friends who complain about inconsistent instructors - CSS is unmatched! Coach Laurie is awesome, she was my daughter’s coach from age 5 months through 2.5 years. We’ll be coming back for as long as we need lessons in our family!
