Chain fitness center offering group classes and personal training, plus a pool.
The Carls Family YMCA typically features two pools: a lap pool maintained at approximately 79-81°F (26-27°C) for swimming and exercise, and a warmer program/family pool kept around 86-88°F (30-31°C), suitable for lessons, therapy, and recreational use.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for the YMCA are mixed, highlighting both significant positive aspects and serious frustrations. Many members praise the facility for its great gym, variety of equipment, and positive, supportive community atmosphere. Staff members, like Jerry and Becky, are frequently noted for being friendly and welcoming. It's often recommended for families, with children enjoying programs while parents work out or have personal time. However, major criticisms revolve around membership management and facility accessibility. The cancellation policy is described as extremely difficult and stressful, requiring an in-person visit and adherence to a strict 10-day prior notice, with no refunds for missed deadlines. Furthermore, the pool, a key amenity for many, is frequently reported as inaccessible due to inconvenient hours, frequent closures, and unannounced sign-up sheets, leading to frustration and a feeling of wasted money for those who joined primarily for swimming.

I hate leaving bad reviews, but today I felt robbed and disrespected. Great facility if you are consistent and like subscription based memberships and don't mind extra difficulty in cancelling them. You can only cancel your subscription by going in person to the facility and signing a document at the front desk. They only need one signature and two initials, but this MUST be done in person to effectively cancel the recurring payments. This process could easily be done online, but they have decided to make it more difficult to cancel by requiring you to be in person to cancel your membership. Also be aware that you MUST cancel at least TEN DAYS before the day the membership subscription renews. They apparently have a no refunds policy, so if you forget to cancel ten days before the subscription renews, congratulations, you get to pay for your YMCA subscription for another month. I love the YMCA, but I probably won't be going back because the membership stipulations are such a pain. This subscription has caused tension in my personal life and has brought me way too much stress. I wish the YMCA were more accessible and less of a ball and chain. They need to rethink the way they handle their memberships. I would not recommend a YMCA membership anymore because it's too much of a hassle to cancel, so if you get it, you might be stuck paying for it until you can make extra time in your schedule to go in person ten days before the renewal date. Good luck!
My family and I started going here the end of last year. Great gym and we can work out while our daughter is making new friends. Friendly staff specifically Jerry and Becky who always greats us every time we visit. Definitely recommend.
I've had a fantastic experience at my community's YMCA gym! From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed by the friendly staff and the positive atmosphere. The gym is always clean, well-maintained, and equipped with a great variety of machines and free weights. Whether I’m focusing on cardio, strength training, or taking a group fitness class, there’s always something to suit my needs. I also love the sense of vigor here – it’s not just a gym; it’s a place where people of all ages and fitness levels come together to support one another. The instructors are knowledgeable and motivating, making every class both fun and challenging. Plus, the additional amenities like the pool and locker rooms really make it feel like a well-rounded fitness experience. Overall, I highly recommend this YMCA gym to anyone looking for a supportive, inclusive, and well-equipped fitness environment. It’s truly a great place to stay active and be part of a wonderful community!
Nice enough facilities, but I joined for the pool and it's essentially never open. They close at 1 & 2pm on Saturday and Sunday, 7 & 8 on weekdays, but are closed for 2 hours during lunch. Of the maybe 20 times I decided to go in for a swim, I got to actually swim less than half of those. Between their insane hours and down time, and their unannounced sign up sheet (which requires a call and several hours planning) I wasted hundreds of dollars thinking I'd go for a swim with the kids but ended up getting turned away for one reason or another after the 30min drive to get there. Recently I've been wiser and I call before simply assuming I could just show up to the gym I'm paying $100/mo to go to. The result: I haven't been there in over 4 months. Entirely not worth it.
They have a great swim and gym program. My sons love it. I love that I get a couple hours to myself to run around Milford, exercise there or just read.
