What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for this campground are mixed, with many visitors praising its beauty and the quality of its campsites. The campground offers both well-equipped RV sites with water and electric hookups, and highly-regarded primitive 'woods' tent sites, which are described as pleasant, spacious, well-cared for, and ideal for an off-grid experience and stargazing. However, a significant number of negative experiences revolve around the owner/staff, specifically 'Doug', who is characterized as grumpy, having a serious attitude problem, and exhibiting extremely poor, condescending, and aggressive customer service, particularly in situations like cancellations due to unforeseen power outages. One review also noted an unpleasant incident with uncleaned bathroom facilities. Despite the beautiful setting, the negative interactions with staff have led some to recommend seeking alternative campgrounds.

We just camped here for the second time this summer and we love it!!! The campground is beautiful. We camped with water and electric for our camper but they have some awesome primitive camping sites tucked up in the woods. Each time we come back we like the campground more and more! Hopefully we can fit in a few more camping trips here this year!
The most fantastic thing about this place isn’t even mentioned anywhere. Drive in and you’ll see a very nice campground with good amenities and nice RV sites with hookups and beautiful surroundings. But, drive in deeper, past the field camping area, into the forest and you’ll end up in the most pleasant area ever. The woods campsites, they are fantastic. Moss covered tent areas, large fire pits, spacious sites, all perfectly cared for, and just enough sky visible through the trees to enjoy a view of the stars. Best place ever…especially for those who want an off grid non-RV experience.
Doug is a grumpy geezer with a serious attitude problem. We camped here a few times for the last decade and his attitude has been getting worse and worse over time. Recommend camping somewhere else where the owner does not seem miserable all the time. There are better camp grounds in the vicinity.
Ah, what a memorable experience—and we didn’t even make it past the reservation. We had to cancel our stay because of an unfortunate power outage which of course, is out of anyone’s control, but that makes a big difference when you’re traveling with a pregnant wife, a one-and-a-half-year-old child, and two dogs. Silly us for thinking electricity might be a basic amenity when paying for a campsite. But the real adventure began when we called to let the owner know we wouldn’t be coming. Rather than understanding, we were treated to a truly special brand of customer service—condescending, argumentative, and oddly aggressive. My wife, again pregnant, was lucky enough to get into a spirited debate with the owner, who clearly thought we were being unreasonable for not wanting to camp without power with an infant and pets. What an outrageous request on our part, right? We were to be accompanied by my parents and grandparents in their campers as well. He proceeded to say, “Oh, so I guess everyone else is pregnant with a toddler too, huh?” Real nice. And just when we thought the interaction couldn’t get any more charming, we were told we were being “flagged.” Oh no! The horror! Being blacklisted by a campground that thinks arguing with expectant mothers is good hospitality…how will we ever recover? If you enjoy power outages, drama, and being scolded like a child for putting your family’s safety first, this place is a must-visit. For everyone else: there are better options with electricity and basic human decency.
“Camp Charles was a solid experience overall, but the bathroom situation gave me a surprise I wasn’t ready for. Walked into the restroom and found someone had already… claimed the throne. Let’s just say it wasn’t the kind of ‘souvenir’ you want to find at camp. 💩 Aside from the unexpected bathroom buddy, everything else was great. Maybe just a little more attention to the facilities and it’d be perfect!”
