About

The MWR Mayport Outdoor Pool is a recreational facility located at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, FL, specifically at 1425 Baltimore St. Operated by Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR), it serves military personnel, their families, and authorized patrons, providing a large outdoor swimming area for leisure and fitness, typically operating seasonally.

Specific, consistent temperature information for the MWR Mayport Outdoor Pool is generally not publicly advertised or readily available. As an outdoor facility, its water temperature naturally fluctuates with ambient weather conditions and is typically not heated to a fixed temperature unless otherwise specified for specific events or seasons.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews offer a mixed perspective on the facility. Many patrons praise the staff for being very nice and helpful, with one reviewer specifically wanting to commend an outstanding employee. The pool is generally described as a very nice and clean place for families, with some considering it a favorite. However, several significant issues were raised: delays in pool opening, an extremely hot pool deck on warm days, and particularly, concerns regarding lifeguards' conduct and training in relation to ADA accommodations for neurodiverse children. This included vague swim test instructions, a ban on previously allowed goggles, denial of re-tests, and a perceived lack of understanding for individuals who process information differently. Other complaints included a slide being closed due to an unaddressed wasp nest, filthy bathrooms, and some lifeguards exhibiting condescending attitudes. Notably, one reviewer, after a highly negative experience concerning ADA issues, updated their review to express appreciation for a thoughtful response from the owner, indicating they would return.

It serves to reason that if the pool opens at 1100 it would be open at 1100. But for some reason we are sitting here waiting, 10 mins after, not allowed to get in the pool because one of the 15 mwr people standing around can’t get to the lifeguard station.

Very nice pool for the family. Just be cautious about when it’s hot outside. The floor around the pool is very hot.

Lifeguards are not ADA friendly! Beware if you have a neurodiverse child! Extremely disappointed. We have been coming here 3 years with our now 10 year old ASD daughter and have never had problems. In the past we had no issues with her doing the swim test with goggles but this year they were banned. Which I understand rules have changed but I was disappointed accommodations weren’t allowed. Even after we explained to 3 different lifeguards 2 different times that due to her disability she processes info differently and needs clear instructions, they were still vague in the instructions. She was told to swim to one end and back and tread water She was not told a specific stroke or she needed to stay in one spot while treading water. So of course she swam and tread water the way she is used to at home. Only after she did what was asked and failed was she told clear directions. When I got in and demonstrated she then grasped the rules and asked to do it again, but of course she was denied. Curiously enough, a few minutes later I saw the same lifeguard demonstrating to someone else how to undergo the swim test, yet in our case he was not clear in instructions and left if up to my daughters own interpretation, which apparently was not what he wanted. I understand there are rules in play for reasons, but I am disappointed that your lifeguards aren’t trained in how to instruct neurotypical individuals. Maybe we came on an off day but our experience was nothing like it was in the past The slide was closed down due to a wasp nest, yet nothing was done to clear the wasp nest The bathrooms were filthy, bloodied paper towels littered the women’s bathroom and the gerneral attitude of the lifeguards were ones of condescending and belittling. I hope that this will reach someone that can rectify this so others don’t go through this (oh an we drive over an hour to get here) Edited to add: I truly appreciate the thoughtful response from the owner. As parents to our ND kids all we want is for them to enjoy a bit of normalcy I appreciate you taking the time to read and address and as a result we will definitely be back. Thank you again

This is a very nice pool. It's always very clean, and the lifeguards and staff there are very nice. We are visiting from Panama City, FL, and this is one of our favorite places! 😄👍
