What are people saying (AI review summary)? This establishment is widely praised as a 'gem' and a 'great swimming hole,' known for its natural, man-made freshwater lake, sand beach, ample space, and family-friendly amenities including BBQ pits and a snack shop. Many appreciate its unique, chemical-free water, though some find its appearance initially unusual. Feedback on staff is mixed; while some found them 'on the ball' and management 'nice,' significant criticism was directed at the lifeguards for perceived inattention and unprofessionalism, with specific safety concerns raised. Concessions also received varied reviews, improving from an initial negative impression to being described as 'pretty great' food in a later update. Overall, it's considered a fun and lovely spot, valued by long-time visitors, despite some specific issues with staff and changing concession quality.

***UPDATE*** was there again today, still just as good. The snack bar seemed to have some pretty great food too. Such a great swimming hole. It's a man-made lake with a great atmosphere. We were there for my daughter's swim meet and thought it was really cool. I get some people are turned off by the "look" of the water, but it's fresh water without a ton of chemicals so.... Anyway, wish it was closer to us because then joining would make sense for us. The staff seemed really "on the ball" too and that they want you to have fun but be safe at the same time, I respect that.
Been coming here since Covid. Grateful to have found this gem. The concessions have changed ...not for the better...and yes Mike was the problem this summer. Glad he is gone. Very disrespectful to the life guards...and he is a gym teacher in Bloomfield?? The kids who life guard have always been on point and should be respected not only by management but the children who frequent the club.
Enjoyed colony for the past 30 years off and on when visiting family. Great little beach / swimming area in the heart of Chatham, special considering what others have around the country. Do not trust their lifeguards, they're lucky to have not had a drowning incident, or maybe they have. Guards are bored, not paying attention and have headphones in their ears. Otherwise if you're a parent its a nice experience, just plan to watch your own children to be safe and dont rely on their provided lifeguards.
Spend part of my summer here with camp kids. Fun place! Really nice management.
Lovely and as natural as pool clubs get, we can't say enough nice things about this place. Sand beach, plenty of space, chairs for everyone, bbq pits, a snack shop, and so much kid stuff.
