About

Jersey Wahoos Swim Club, located at 4101 Church Rd, Mt Laurel Township, NJ, is a premier year-round competitive swim program. It offers training, stroke instruction, and coaching for swimmers of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to national qualifiers. The facility includes an 8-lane, 25-yard competitive pool, a separate 25-yard teaching pool, and a warm-water therapy pool.

The competitive pools at Jersey Wahoos are consistently maintained between 78 and 79 degrees Fahrenheit. The teaching pool and therapy pool are kept warmer, between 86 and 88 degrees Fahrenheit.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for Jersey Wahoos present a mixed but predominantly negative current picture, contrasting with more positive historical sentiments. While some long-term patrons recall a clean pool and significant building improvements made over a decade ago, more recent feedback describes a substantial decline in the facility's condition. Frequent complaints highlight 'deplorable' and 'horrid' restrooms and changing areas, citing issues like broken and overflowing urinals, a consistent lack of soap, and general filth that has persisted for months. The facility is often noted for a strong, unpleasant stench, and some recent visitors even describe the pools as 'filthy.' These hygiene and maintenance issues, alongside observations of distracted coaching, have led several customers to switch to alternative swim schools, with some suggesting intervention from the board of health.

I swam at Jersey Wahoos a little over 14 years from 2004 to 2018 and the their time it was great. While the building reeks of chlorine its pool is one of the cleanest around, and it just means the pool is safe. As a lifeguard there I made a lot of changes to how conduct was performed and added extra cleaning duties at the end of the day including cleaning drains and trash. I might add before a new COO was added the building was in rough shape and last I saw it looks like a whole new building! I hope this team stays strong.

I had been here as a child and I remember really appreciating the vibe of this swim club. I'm a huge fan of ghetto aesthetics rooted in sturdy lasting construction. It kind of reminds me of Rocky or other movies with such settings. Swimming is the single most difficult sport to master therefore I am beyond impressed with the swimmers who have kept this place open all these decades. Swimming is the feat of a world class athlete. I cannot explain how difficult swimming is however I know Wahoos understands

The building just continues to get worse and worse every week. The actual pools are fine it's the restrooms and changing areas. In the men's bathroom, 1 urinal hasn't worked for almost 3 months, has a 5 gallon bucket beneath it, and now the other urinal is now overflowing and their solution is to put a squeegee in the restroom to push the overflow down a floor drain. There hasn't been soap in the dispenser for as long as the first urinal hasn't been working and no one can tell you the last time the entire area was cleaned. A little sanitation goes a long way, not to mention calling a plumber to fix what's wrong. It's one thing if it just happened within the last week, but it's months. For all the money people pay to swim there, it surely should be in the budget to get the restrooms fixed!

Deplorable. One word sums it up. I've had my daughter in lessons at wahoos for nearly 5 years. Every year it gets worse and worse. The board of health should shut them down. Bathrooms and stench are gross. My daughter cries because she has to hold her nose in the building. We have switched over to gold fish swim school in mt laurel. It is super clean and overall a great experience. Wahoos desperately needs to clean up their act, its a disgusting shame.

About a month ago, I was looking for a swim center near my home where I can go and take lessons. I went to Wahoos (which is very close to my house) and it was horrid. The coach was on her phone while her students were swimming in a filthy pool that reeked of chlorine. I could barely breathe! I walked straight out of that place and I plan to never go back again. I'm currently looking for a center for swimming lessons. But hey, at least I crossed Wahoo's off my list.
