What are people saying (AI review summary)? This YMCA location receives mixed reviews, highlighting both positive and significant negative experiences. Positively, the facility is generally noted for its cleanliness, well-maintained and up-to-date equipment, a good stretching room, and a highly-praised Kid Zone with friendly staff. Members appreciate the saunas and active outdoor basketball and tennis courts. However, several critical issues are frequently mentioned. The facility is described as small compared to other YMCAs, lacking an indoor pool or steam room. The outdoor pool has very restrictive hours, which are often poorly communicated by staff, leading to frustration for new members and guests. Significant concerns are raised about indoor air quality due to a lack of HVAC filters and dusty vents, and occasionally inappropriate music. Customer service is a major point of contention, with staff being described as unwelcoming, giving incorrect information about guest policies and cancellation procedures, and exhibiting rudeness or unprofessional behavior. A recurring and serious problem involves billing, with multiple members reporting being charged after canceling their memberships, experiencing double charges, and facing difficulty in resolving these issues with unresponsive customer service at both local and corporate levels. Some members also complain about teens and young adults monopolizing workout machines.

It's a small Y compared to others I've been to in other cities. Its very clean. I haven't tried the outdoor pool yet. They don't have an indoor pool or steam room. They do have saunas (one for men and one for women ) that are connected to the locker room/bathrooms. I love the sauna after my workout! The kid zone is great! I use it 2-3 times a week. My three year old son loves it and the staff are very sweet and friendly. I am only there in the evenings on weekdays so I don't know how busy they are during the day but in the evenings they are moderately busy and expect to have a little wait for the machine you want. People are good about not spending too much time on one machine though so you'll get a decent workout on multiple machines in one hour. They got a good room for stretching too. I've never done a class here but supposedly they are popular here. The outdoor basketball and tennis court always seem active too. Staff are all polite as well.

Cleanness for the most part is acceptable. The main concern I have is the quality of the indoor air since there are no HVAC air filters installed. Also, One can see the air return grills on ceiling are dusty and are never cleaned. Music can sometimes be inappropriate for children and adults ("Im in Love with your body," etc). Staff is friendly and caring (for the most part) until you show up with your kids and they act like they’ve never seen them before by asking questions and telling them to bring their own membership cards even though I have a family plan. Equipment is always cleaned, maintained, and most are always in working order. Overall experience is okay.

DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS “GYM” 3rd time in a row they have charged me after I canceled. I called customer service just now and they said they would “look into it.” Way to take advantage of people YMCA I had a similar experience to the reviewer right below mine. If you enjoy paying for things and not actually getting the service you pay for this is the place for you. One Saturday my friend asked me to come to their pool with her and told me was told it would be $25 for me to come as her guest. I drive 40 minutes and go to the front desk and explain I’m here as my friend’s guest to use the pool and I’m told I can’t….because it’s a weekend. I ask if I can do the 7 day free pass but I’m told I can’t do that either. I explain I just drove 40 minutes and my friend was never told this even after she asked but that changed nothing. I was having issues with my phone so I asked if I could go out to the pool to at least tell my friend I had been there and what happened. The kid at the front asked my name and radioed it to someone out by the pool and as I’m walking to the pool I hear it being radioed again. You would have thought I was visiting the President. I find my friend and explain the situation. She asks if I will join the gym and I figure hey why not, we can use the pool all summer. So I go to the front and the same kid signs me up. $130 dollars (and another $60 in 2 weeks) later, it’s about 2 o’clock. I go back out to the pool and my friend and sit for a while thinking we have plenty of time to get in. An hour later we start seeing everyone get out and we ask 2 lifeguards if the pool is closing. It was. At 3 o’clock on a Saturday. My friend told me later she saw the 2 lifeguards clearing making comments about us asking, which I find very rude and unprofessional, whether they were 15 or not. We go inside and I explain to the manager (who was now at the front) that I was confused why the kid who had just signed me up didn’t mention the pool closed in an hour. Her response? “Well at least you got an hour!” She definitely thought it was a very cute, funny response but I personally don’t appreciate joking about someone’s hard earned money. Especially when you’re a manager. I ask to cancel my account and she tells me I have to call some number to do that. I calm down a bit and decide to give it another chance. I figured maybe it was just a misunderstanding. A couple weeks later I looked up the pool hours and was surprised to see the pool hours were just as restrictive. 7am - noon on weekdays at the end of May. I was going to take my husband and get the 7 day pass and it wasn’t a weekend so I figured it would be fine. We rush to get there by 10:30am and I ask to use the 7 day pass and they say no. They say we can pay $25 for him to use the pool but after already hearing my poor experiences with this place, my husband declined. That was enough for me as well and I ask to cancel again. The woman working the front says she can do it right there which means the manager I had spoken to before either was unaware they could cancel memberships there or didn’t tell the truth. Oh, and I had noticed about a week ago that they had double charged me for my monthly fee and when I tried to call YMCA corporate or whatever it’s called the system says no one is available but please leave a message. No one has called me back after 4 days. So now I have to dispute it with my bank myself. This place is abysmal.

I have visited this location twice and had 2 strange experiences. The first time I went with a friend who is an actual member, I am not a member. She was visiting me in Clayton and I mentioned to her there was a YMCA here. While we were out she wanted to stop by and see what the clayton location looked like. When we walked in the receptionist wasn’t too welcoming at all. My friend explained to her that she is a member but I am not, however would it be ok if we just looked around. The lady acted as if it was an issue but she ended up letting us look around. Since the place is so small it took all of 10 mins to see the place. As we were leaving she didn’t ask if we had any questions or even ask me if I was thinking about joining. During the 2nd visit my friend invited me to come to a class with her after I told her I had a guest pass. Upon entering I let the receptionist know I had a guest pass. She asked me was I there to take a class and I told her I was. She then says “ok guest cant use the pool”. I let her know again that I was there to only take a class. Once the class was over my friend wanted to look at the pool area, I followed her. Before we even got to the door where the pool was the same receptionist yelled loudly “the pool cannot be used by guest” . I turned around and told her yet again I was not there to use the pool and that my friend who is a member wanted to look at the pool. Both of us were dressed in workout clothes and had our yoga mats. We were not dressed to be in a pool. Ive been to two other YMCA locations and Ive never been treated this way. That location definitely wont see me there again. The Customer service is just awful.

Friendly staff, very clean facility with up to date equipment. Only issue is teens and twenty somethings sitting on machines for 45 mins looking at their phones. THEY DON'T MOVE.
