Campus recreation center with a climbing gym, multiple pools, and facilities for basketball, soccer, racquetball, and swimming.
The aquatics center includes a lap pool typically maintained at 80-82°F (26.6-27.7°C), a leisure pool at 86-88°F (30-31.1°C), and a hot tub ranging from 102-104°F (38.8-40°C).
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The Student Life Center elicits mixed feedback. Positively, the Legacy Gym is praised for being spacious, well-equipped with a variety of machines for different muscle groups, studio rooms, aerobic equipment, and a good selection of dumbbells and resistance bands. However, numerous issues are raised. Equipment limitations include dumbbells not exceeding 100 lbs and a 'terrible' floor lacking platforms for squats. Policies such as the 'no photography/videography' rule are unpopular, and the gym is not open 24/7. A significant number of complaints target management and staff, citing inconsistent and short operating hours (including unexpected early closures and limited weekend access), a strict no-family/kids policy during weekdays, old equipment, and pervasive rudeness and unhelpfulness from staff. Difficulties with alumni/non-credit student access verification, described as frustrating and poorly handled, are also a major point of contention. Suggestions for improvement include heavier dumbbells, a pendulum machine, more workout mats, enhanced staff training, and a reconsideration of access and photography policies.

The student life center presents you with a variety of sporting and relaxation sites for your many pleasures. As a gym enthusiast, I find the legacy gym very embracing with its inviting choice of colors. Not only is the gym spacious, it has almost all the necessary equipment for your preferred muscle groups, including studio rooms and aerobic equipment. I’m particularly impressed with the number of dumbbells there are - as well as other little things such as resistance bands, that add to the tiny pleasures! Two downsides to the gym though - the dumbbells do not go beyond 100lbs (I would love for more - 150lbs). Secondly, the gym doesn’t run 24/7 (understandably so, because it is mostly staffed by students - but still sad nonetheless). The jury is still out on their “no photography/videography” policy. I personally find it ludicrous because the gym is one place where people take loads of photos and videos - and not just for vain purposes, but to monitor progress. I think that policy can be adjusted a little bit! In all, no regrets signing up to the GSESLC. If I may suggest one machine for them to acquire, then it will be the pendulum machine - for deep squats and more workout mats please!!! A solid 7/10
The floor is terrible for squats and there are no platforms for squatting. Expect your feet to slide around on the floor if you do squats. In fact maybe just do leg day somewhere else. The gym area should’ve been designed by someone who’s stepped foot in one before.
If I could give 0 stars I would. I've used this facility many times over the course of my time at the U. I graduated in Spring 2025 and am still taking a few non credit classes. Little did I know that this would be a GIGANTIC issue for using the gym! My ucard didn't work when I scanned in, which was understandable since I had graduated. I thought I would just have to confirm that I was indeed, still a student, had a uID, still taking classes, etc. But the staff (Charlie?) was so insistent that they confirm my alumni status. After jumping through a bunch of hoops, I had downloaded and logged into the U Alumni app, however when I showed it to them they said "actually, yours looks different from other people's so I actually cant use that to verify that you graduated." They then suggested that I go to the Alumni office to get some sort of "proof" that I graduated, when literally all I wanted to do was use a treadmill cause its insanely hot outside. When I told them that I'm 100% sure that I graduated and am in the system as such because 1) I walked at graduation and 2) I physically have my diplomas, he said "oh I can print off a diploma from the internet." He refused to even give me a day pass even though I had my ucard, had signed into the app, and done everything else he had asked. At this point he was just refusing to let me in and basically insinuating that I hadn't graduated and was just trying to freeload off the gym or something. He was so incredibly unhelpful and just plain rude. They need to train their staff better and I suppose get a better system that "proves" one's graduation status or you'll be sitting there for 20 minutes trying to convince someone that you graduated. Spoiler: they'll assume that you didnt and that you printed your diplomas off from the internet.
Soon to be renamed the Karen Eccles School of where’s the Management and HOAs Hours are regularly updated to close upon your arrival. Students are encouraged to askew belongings in the hallway and reserve unused lockers for future alumni. Does removing soap from the men’s room constitute a Title IX issue?
The worst management ever. Always closed or their hours are short. They open at 8 am and close at 6 pm on weekends. They never allow family and kids during week. Old equipment and rude staff and manger. It seems they have never worked out in their entire life!
