About

Up-to-date facilities and a swimming pool at this family-oriented YMCA chain location.

The Chesterfield Family YMCA maintains its 6-lane lap pool at a comfortable 80°F. The recreational pool, which includes a zero-depth entry and water slide, is kept at a warmer 86°F. Additionally, there is a hot tub available for ages 16 and up, set at a relaxing 102°F.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for various YMCA facilities present a mixed picture, with significant praise for some aspects and strong criticism regarding recent renovations. Positive feedback often highlights well-laid-out facilities, friendly and helpful staff, good amenities like pools, saunas, hot tubs, and diverse class offerings, with the Chesterfield YMCA specifically cited as a 'great facility.' However, a predominant theme of dissatisfaction revolves around recent locker room changes. Many patrons lament the removal of communal showers and steam rooms, replaced with fewer, less private stall showers (some with poor design, e.g., not reaching the floor, dingy curtains) and fewer lockers. This is seen by many as a loss of a social space and an erosion of the YMCA's heritage as a place for body comfort, with new designs described as 'hostile to socializing.' Conversely, at least one review praised the shift to enclosed showers for increased privacy. Other significant complaints include privacy concerns in women's locker rooms (e.g., a window, lack of privacy for children/elderly), a drastic downgrade in the new Child Watch rooms (described as cramped 'broom closets' lacking natural light/windows and ventilation), and an perceived overabundance of handicap parking spaces leading to general parking shortages and concerns about membership retention.

This Y is pretty cool. It's under construction so I won't judge the gym too harshly, but it is currently missing important equipment. The pool, sauna, and hot tub are super nice. This Y has enclosed showers, so no gay old gross jewish men walking around naked thank God. St Charles Y is terrible about that, avoid that one. Best part is the pond in back.

Tore out 2 dozen communal showers in the men's locker room and half the lockers to replace it with 6 bathroom stall showers (they don't even go all the way to the floor) with dingy curtains and 3 changing stalls by the lockers. And tore out the steam room inside the men's locker room. While having the nerve to call it an "upgrade." In an age where people are becoming increasingly prudish and socialization is being punished, the YMCA should embrace its heritage as a place for people to feel proud of and comfortable with their body. I used to shower and steam with friends after activities like pick-up sports, judo, and exercise classes. Now they've made the locker room into a place with architecture hostile to socializing. The very least that could be done is to reinstall the steam room and convert half of the stalled showers to communal for those with that preference, if they want to shower with friends or family. Absolutely no reason to be so prudish in an adult men's locker room.

The Chesterfield YMCA is a great facility. The building is well laid out with numerous areas to work out in and even has a theater for plays. This YMCA staff is friendly and helpful. They also have many classes for young kids, teenagers, adults, and seniors. We really enjoy this facility.

Why on earth would you put a window in a women’s changing/ locker room? Do the men’s have that? That just screams inappropriate. The locker rooms are god awful and there is no privacy for children or elderly unless you lock yourself in a tiny changing room. The rows of lockers was way better. Really starting to not like this setup. Also what’s up with them adding like 10 more handicap spaces. I’m all for helping the elderly but we already had 68948559 handicap spots and they are never all used. We barely have anywhere to park as it is. So I guess you don’t want ppl coming in at all? It’ll be a miracle if you don’t lose half your memberships the way it’s going. Wild.

2/21/2025 Update: They opened the adjacent room with a play area. Still no natural light/windows in the main Child Watch room. I used to drive 40min to this YMCA because of the Child watch room. The engineer who did the building plans obviously doesn't have kids and didn't considered them. The Child watch room used to have windows, so kids and employees at least could have natural light! The room was spacious and you could have different ages divided (especially if you are bringing a baby). Now they are all cramped in a broom closet, no windows, no good ventilation! I was so, so disappointed, any parent without an engineering degree could see the horrible idea and everything that is wrong with the new Child watch room! Shame, shame, They have a picture showing how it's going to look the YMCA after the renovation, and all the entrance are windows from ceiling to the floor, but the YMCA agrees to stick the kids on a broom closet. Hope someone with a brain will change this!
