What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for this YMCA location present a mixed but largely negative picture. While some praise friendly employees and recent remodels, significant issues are reported across different areas. The weight room is frequently criticized for un-racked weights and disorganization. The aquatic center receives numerous complaints about overly strict and rude lifeguards, inconsistent rule enforcement (e.g., filming policies), and lifeguards being inattentive. Members also express concern over the YMCA's changing policies, noting the absence of family day passes and the addition of service fees, which makes it less affordable and less family-oriented. A particularly alarming incident involved an employee admitting to taking a member's phone from a locker 'to teach a lesson'.

Employees are always nice and the new remodel is a good improvement, but this place still drives me nuts. I only come here for the weight room and weights are never racked correctly. Id go to any other Y if possible but this location is just too convenient for me, even if it means constant headaches trying to get the weight I need from racks. Pictures 2 and 3 (smith machine area) were added 2 months after the initial review and reply saying it was being looked into. Its a fine gym but be prepared to deal with some annoyances.
We went to the water park today and had a less than pleasant experience. One lifeguard decided she was a the equivalent of a prison guard I guess. I was taking a video of my son, enjoying the place structure and she rudely told me that I can only take videos of my son and not other children. Am I supposed to ask the other children to leave the waterpark so I can take a video of my son having fun? And please explain to me why she bothered me but yet they allowed another woman 10 feet away to film everybody and not say a word???? All this lifeguard did was yell at people the entire time we were there, somebody needs to tell her she is not king of the waterpark. And then on the other spectrum, you had two lifeguards that would rather chat each other up, then watch the kids coming down the slide. Looks like you need to get your lifeguards in check for next season. One needs to relax and the others need to pay attention.
Me and my buddy came here to swim on a saturday. Been a y member for a long time, but this is my first time at South Y. Immediately upon entering the aquatic center, we could not do right. There is a rule for EVERYTHING. We also werent informed of classes or kids lesson, so we pretty much got kicked out of every body of water available. Seriously, after 30 minutes, we had gotten corrected by rude lifeguards 20+ times. If you’re looking for a fun aquatic park, this aint it. Honestly close to Nazi Germany.
The ymca is not family oriented… they no longer offer family day passes, and on top of your monthly membership fee they want an extra 75 dollars for a service fee. It’s no longer affordable for a family…. Which is sad because I grew up going to the YMCA… it had joined the list of many other things that are not truly centered around families.
I’ve been going to this YMCA for ten years now and don’t get me wrong it’s an amazing why but tenyears ago me and my son were at his swimming lessons and I put my phone in the locker along with some other stuff I get back in the car. I forgot my phone so I went back and it wasn’t there so I told the employees and one of the women’s that were working there said this one and I said yeah and then the lady said yeah I took it to teach you a lesson
