What are people saying (AI review summary)? Wayside receives largely positive reviews, with members frequently commending its clean, well-maintained facilities and the responsive general manager, Brian. It's highlighted as suitable for hybrid athletes, offering weights, a pool, and a sauna. The club boasts a wide array of racket sports including tennis, badminton, pickleball, and racquetball, with competitive court fees and convenient online booking via an app. Other popular features include a heated outdoor pool with lap lanes, well-structured swimming lessons, and various group fitness classes. The gym is noted for being uncrowded, with equipment found helpful for physical rehabilitation. Recent changes under new management are a significant theme, including the addition of badminton and pickleball courts, new badminton lessons, and extended club hours for racket sports (up to midnight). There are also plans to upgrade existing gym equipment, which members are eagerly anticipating. However, some criticisms include limited indoor pool access during weekday evenings due to school teams and earlier closing times (9:30 pm M-F) for the gym and sauna, which is disappointing for members expecting more access given the membership cost. One member also noted the absence of a basketball court. Despite these points, there is overall excitement for the club's future improvements under the new ownership.
Reviews
I have been coming to Wayside since I was a child for swim lessons. In recent years, I rejoined in order to have access to weights, pool and sauna all in one location. As a hybrid athlete this gym has everything that I need. Staff and management work hard to keep the facility clean and up to date. There is something for everyone here. The GM Brian has been especially responsive and considerate to me and my needs over the years.
Tennis/Racquetball court fees are now $20/hr compared to $45/hr in other clubs. That itself is a significant amount of savings. New management has taken over now converting the existing three (out of 6) tennis courts to 12 Badminton courts. The badminton lessons are taught by two young badminton champions who are the co-owners of the club as well. Three tennis courts are in the bubble are good enough for winter and other seasons. Club timings are extended now up to Midnight on weekdays + Saturday and up to 10pm on Sundays They have a handy app which makes it easy to book reservations. For swimming, you can book a lane and it is all yours for the time period. Same procedure for tennis and other sports. This club has the following racket sports - Badminton, tennis, pickleball and racket ball (squash). Swimming lessons are reasonable and well structured. The fitness rooms are always empty. There are various group classes conducted by seasoned instructors. The highlight of this club is the outdoor pool which is a heated 12ft deep pool and has two dedicated lap lanes. Plus they have a wading pool for toddlers. They have a promotions for new members. The new management has plans to upgrade the gym and few other areas. The guest fees is $25 but you need to sign up online and accept the waiver (standard procedure for all clubs) The general manager Brian Lynch is very friendly, and he is reachable through email. He conducts tours of the club for prospective members. He does not pressurize anyone to join.
We joined early this year, mainly for the pool access, but we have enjoyed learning Raquetball from Ted, the gym is never busy, and the steam and sauna rooms in the bathrooms are very relaxing post workout. The one thing we found unappealing after joining was that indoor pool access for members is only during the daytime Mon-Fri (because school teams use the indoor pool on weekday evenings) and open hours on the weekend. And now, with the new ownership, we are so excited with all the changes, like the addition of badminton and pickelball courts and the extension of open hours! The promise of updating the old, rusty gym equipment is definitely something to look forward to! We are so excited about how awesome this club is going to become over the next few months! Edit: I just found out that only the badminton, pickleball, and raquetball courts are open till midnight. The gym and sauna still close at 9:30pm M-F, which is highly disappointing. With membership at $160/month for the two of us, I was really expecting a lot more access.
I've been a member for many years. Very affordable, competent and helpful staff. Good atmosphere, members get along. Large pretty well equipped fitness room. Easy to schedule a swim lane with their app, no need to share a lane. I don't play tennis or racquetball but seems like good communities for each. I do wish they had a basketball court but everything else IMO is great, and the price is right Highly reccomend
I had knee replacement surgery, I found the equipments in the gym are so helpful for my rehab with Physical Therapist instructions.
