About

Bishop Park Pool, located at 705 Sunset Dr in Athens, GA, is a popular seasonal outdoor public pool managed by the Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department. It offers a family-friendly environment with features such as zero-entry access, a water play structure, and designated lap lanes, making it suitable for both recreational swimming and exercise during the summer months.

As an outdoor public pool, Bishop Park Pool is generally unheated. Therefore, its water temperature naturally fluctuates with ambient air temperatures and sun exposure, typically being warmest during peak summer months.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? This public pool garners mixed reviews, highlighting both its strengths and significant areas for improvement. Positively, many appreciate its recent renovation, which includes a zero-entry slope, a 12-foot deep diving well with springboards, and comfortable deck seating. Lifeguards are generally seen as professional, conducting swim tests for deep-end access, and some parents value the adult swim period for breaks. However, recurring complaints include extremely long wait times, particularly at opening, and persistent overcrowding. While some praise the facility's cleanliness, others report issues with trash in the pool water (such as bandaids and hair) and dirty bathrooms. The adult swim rule is also criticized by some for being disruptive to children. Furthermore, there are serious concerns about vaping on premises, including an incident where a patron was unfairly accused and threatened with expulsion for vaping, while actual vapers were reportedly overlooked.

Very nice public pool. They have a zero entry slope for the young ones to get in, and the pool travels along the way to a set of two spring boards into a 12ft deep diving well. The pool was recently renovated and is brand new. It was a very comfortable pool to play around at. The lifeguard crew has the young ones take a swim test in the deep end of the pool if they want to participate jumping off the boards. The test was simple for both of my boys, one being a brand new swimmer this summer. The guard wants to test if you can swim across the pool without aid and if you can tread water for 30 seconds. I would definitely visit this pool again based on the size of the deck seating and the deep swimming well with the diving boards. I also found that if you arrive when the pool opens it is packed tight with people trying to pay and get in. So I often wait about 30 minutes after before arriving. The Adult swim option is a bummer for those who don't have kids, I on the other hand love that I can give my kids a quick snack and take a break from watching them in the pool.

Been here twice, the wait time is super long, after you wait for over an hour to get in your kid(s)maybe asked to exit the pool as they have a rule of adult swim only so all kids must exit the pool for a period of 15m. They should just keep kids on the 5ft end and adults on the deeper end. Place is super crowed and people were vaping… One positive note is that the facility looked clean.

Was really nice, only 4 stars because I got accused of vaping. When we got there it was the waiting period, and there were no chairs right by each other so for half of the time leading up to the accusations I was lifting chairs. Then I got my towel out and put it on the chair, got my sunscreen out and put it on my boyfriend and I, then I got my book out and was reading while drinking my water bottle. To be transparent here, I definitely had outside food in my bag(but that rule does not seem to be highly enforced looking at the other people's tables) so I was eating some almonds when across the pool I see a lifeguard and a older woman looking at me, and I thought that was odd but I figured I was being paranoid. Then I see the lifeguard walk over to another lifeguard where they're looking over at me and pointing, to which at this point I thought they saw that I had outside food and I just figured I was going to get on to about it. Then, the lifeguard walks over to me and is like "you can't vape here" and that kind of caught me off guard because I thought it was going to be about my food. Keep in mind I dont vape, I really mean that, dont get me wrong I understand why someone might think that just because im 18 and teens do that but I've kind of prided myself on not being ratchet and vaping(I also run xc and I take my sport seriously enough to not ruin it with vaping). Anyways, I kind of was confused so I said "im not?" And she kind of looked at me and was like "okay well we've gotten several complaints that you were vaping" and at this point im kind of frustrated because I dont even know what MIGHT OF looked like a vape to understand how I got accused by several people, so I responded with "ma'am I promise you I really dont have a vape" and she looked like she didnt believe me and went "okay well if we get another complaint im going to have to ask you to leave". And that kind of ruined my day im not going to lie, I do not like being accused of being ratchet or doing things like vaping. Im very frustrated that she did not ask to see my bag or anything(not sure if they can but I would've gladly showed her even if it meant sacrificing my snacks haha). It kind of ruined the whole trip and half of the time all I could do is sit there and try to think of what looked like a vape, to be honest I think it was my water bottle, it has a spout and I was drinking it behind my book, but also my boyfriend said smoke comes out of vapes so im not really sure what made them think I had a vape. What made it more frustrating is that for the rest of the time I kept getting dirty looks from mother's and what felt like the lifeguards(not sure but I definitely caught some side eyes from them), AND whenever we were leaving I watched some kid let out a huge puff of smoke very clearly vaping and in my head I was kind of like "that's crazy this kid has had a vape and probably used it a couple times in the pool but no one went up to him, but I got told I would have to leave if they got just another COMPLAINT???" That was really frustrating and the lady I saw with the lifeguard wouldn't even look my way again(oh yeah i definitely gave her the occasional looks), but I don't understand how I got several prior to the lifeguard coming up to me but when I continued doing the exact same thing I had been doing I didnt get more complaints?? Anyways, other than that the facility was very nice and it seemed like the lifeguards made it fun for the little kids. Don't get me wrong I think this is a great place but that incident really just ruined the visit, I dont live around there and I had only really been twice before they redid it, so that was my first impression of that pool after like 4 years.

Pool would be better if there wasn't so much trash everywhere that ends up in the water. There are bandaids, wet paper, and wads of hair all around the pool. The bathrooms are the same with trash everywhere.

Lifeguards are very professional. They can be great role models. Pool is clean and it is a great environment. I love it here
