Legion Pool, located at 337 Cedar St, Athens, GA 30605 (part of the University of Georgia campus), is a large, outdoor, Olympic-sized swimming pool facility. It typically features diving boards, recreational swim areas, and a shallow end, serving as a popular seasonal spot for recreation, lap swimming, and relaxation for the UGA community and sometimes the public.
Legion Pool is an unheated outdoor facility, meaning its water temperature fluctuates naturally with the ambient air temperature and sunlight. It does not maintain a fixed temperature but is generally comfortable for swimming during its operational season, which typically runs through the warmer months.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? This pool is primarily for UGA students and faculty, who need to show ID for access. The general public can use it by making a $40 donation to Legion pool and paying an $8 admission fee, or if accompanied by a UGA student or employee. Reviews are mixed: positive aspects include its large size with many lanes for laps, ample room for children, family-friendly atmosphere, convenient weekend parking, reasonable concessions, watchful lifeguards, and a shallow end with a handrail. However, some users have reported a decline in facility quality, citing issues like daily summer camp buses, excessive noise, and significant concerns about water filth and slime on sidewalls, which led one user to stop attending due to health issues. Conversely, another review describes the pool as 'very clean'.

This pool is for UGA students and faculty. Public can swim by making a $40.00 donation to Legion pool and then will be charged $8.00 admission.
I used to really enjoy coming here in the summers, but have notice a steady decline in the facility. This year, after paying for parking, for a season pass and the Friends of UGA fee, I'm now confronted with daily summer camp buses and their kids, and ensuring noise. OK, I can deal with that. But the filth in the water and the slime on the side walls is just disgusting. I've stopped going, since every time I do, I get a sore throat a few days later. Time to close this place after all? Yes, unless things change.
Only problem is you have to have a UGA student or employee with you to use. But nice pool, convenient parking on weekends, reasonable concessions, watchful lifeguards, nice hand rail for kiddos and shallow end starts at 2.5 feet!
I go here every summer. It's family friendly and is for UGA students and staff. Make sure you remember you ID!
Pool is very clean and very large. It has a lot of lanes to swim laps. There is also a lot of room on either side of the lanes for young ones to play.
