The Jewish Community Center of Greater Buffalo- Downtown, located at 787 Delaware Ave, Buffalo, NY 14209, USA, is a central hub for community life. It offers a diverse range of programs and services catering to all ages, including fitness and wellness facilities, aquatics, early childhood education, cultural events, and senior activities, all aimed at fostering Jewish values, community engagement, and personal well-being.
The JCC features two distinct pools: a 6-lane lap pool maintained at a comfortable 80-82 degrees Fahrenheit (26.7-27.8 degrees Celsius), and a warmer instruction/therapy pool kept at 90-92 degrees Fahrenheit (32.2-33.3 degrees Celsius).
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The JCC receives mixed but generally positive feedback. Many members highly appreciate its strong community atmosphere, contrasting it with feeling like just a business. Recent investments in new fitness equipment, particularly Peloton bikes and modern rowing machines, are frequently praised as significant improvements that enhance the workout experience. Personal training, like that provided by Dillon, is highlighted for encouraging progress. Other positive aspects include a clean facility, diverse offerings such as a heated pool and engaging cooking classes, and generally friendly staff. However, some members express significant dissatisfaction with the gym's layout post-remodel, citing a reduction in machines, wasted space, and a lack of equipment variety (e.g., only one bench or one machine per body part). There is also a desire from some for a larger facility with more equipment. An isolated incident of rude and unprofessional front desk staff was reported, though other reviews mention friendly staff. Despite some drawbacks, for certain members, its local convenience makes it a worthwhile option.

I have been a member for years but never really fully harnessed the opportunity. I picked it cuz it's near where I work two things really change the way I think about the JCC now. first is the fact that I signed up for a trainer. shout out to Dillon who kills me in a good way. I really see the progress and the encouragement. second, is the JCC invested in all new equipment. The prequel is much better than what they had before. the action is smooth and I really like it but even more important is that they got peloton bikes and rowing machines. I use the previous concept 2 rowers and they were okay and I would listen to music but I will confess I have become addicted to the peloton classes. the app is free and you can log in at the gym. truly well done.
I love this place. Other gyms that we have belonged to felt more like a business. This place really does feel like a community. We have been members for 2 months. So far we have enjoyed the heated pool and the gym. Last night we attended a wonderful cooking class that was taught by Errol. I can't wait for next month's class.
Editing after remodel: Don't like this gym anymore. Only one bench, less machines, a lot of wasted space in the layout with a too short to use short sled area, lost the straight angle Smith, basically only one machine per body part. Unfortunately it's the only gym in the area and it's still worth the 1-2x a month I go when I don't want to drive to Catalyst. I really enjoy this gym. It's very clean and the staff is friendly. Would be nice if it was a bit larger and they had more equipment & machines.
I've been coming to this gym for around a month now and it's pretty great. I really like that they have a separate gym and spinn room. I haven't been able to check out any classes other than random spin ones but I look forward to it
When I walked into the community gym, I was greeted by the front desk girl in a manner that was both rude and unprofessional. Her attitude was dismissive and unwelcoming, which left a negative impression on my visit. I believe in the importance of maintaining a positive and courteous environment, especially in a community space. I hope this matter can be addressed to ensure a better experience for all members in the future.
