What are people saying (AI review summary)? Aqua-Tots receives predominantly positive feedback, with many customers commending the professional, friendly, and patient coaches (including specific mentions of Ben, Addy, Sam, Sophia, Alexus, and Brayden) for their effectiveness in teaching children and working with special needs. Front desk staff are frequently described as kind, helpful, and supportive of parents, and the scheduling is noted for its flexibility. Many parents report that their children enjoy the lessons, learn significantly, and thrive in the environment, with facilities generally being clean and organized. However, one highly critical review detailed a distressing incident where an instructor allegedly misled a child about submersion, causing severe fear and a breakdown of trust, leading to concerns about the transparency and consent aspects of their 'submersion-based' curriculum. This review also cited poor customer service during a cancellation, describing it as dismissive and lacking empathy. Minor suggestions for facility improvement included adding automatic door openers and more changing tables.
Reviews
I’m extremely disappointed with our experience at Aqua-Tots. On my child’s very first day, the instructor told her that only her chin would go under water. Once she agreed, the instructor pushed her entire head under instead. This broke my daughter’s trust immediately and left her terrified of the water. She now refuses to return. I understand that Aqua-Tots uses a “submersion-based” curriculum, but honesty and consent are just as important as skills. A child who is already nervous should not be misled in order to get them underwater. It’s not only frightening, it damages trust — both for the child and the parent. When my husband called to cancel, staff hung up on him. My interactions with their customer service were dismissive and unhelpful. While they later processed a refund, the way the situation was handled showed little empathy or accountability. If you are considering lessons here, please be aware that forced submersion is part of their program, and that communication with children may not be as transparent as you’d expect. For families like ours, this approach was not a good fit.
I love the Aquatots Auburn Hills Location. I have been coming here for 4 years. The coaches are great with my kids. They have a special program for special needs kids and my daughter has thrived being a part of it. The front desk staff is very kind. They work really well with the parents. The staff go above and beyond incorporating your child’s needs with the correct swimming program.
My daughter has learned so much in her short time at Aqua-Tots. It’s also just been really fun to be able to have that dedicated time with my daughter at swim lessons every week. Coach Ben and Coach Addy have been phenomenal! They both make it clear to us what we should work on with our daughter week to week. I’d absolutely recommend Aqua-Tots to anyone. The facility is typically very clean, and organized. The desk staff has always been helpful and kind, and most kids here seem to truly enjoy coming to their swim lessons. The only suggestions I do have is for automatic door open buttons on all doors, as it is extremely difficult to maneuver through doors when you’re by yourself and pushing a stroller. I would also ask for more changing tables, possibly a couple in the larger changing rooms. Regardless, I have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated my time here so far and intend on continuing to come here for the foreseeable future.
What a wonderful experience! Staff and coaches are professional and well trained. Coach Sam is so wonderful so is coach Sophia. Coach Sofia is very patient and sweet to kids even when they are having a difficult time! We are very appreciative to how kind everyone is
The scheduling is so flexible I would recommend this place for that alone. But luckily, the coaches are also incredibly friendly, engaged with the kids, and able to consistently reinforce the swim lessons. Shout out to Ben, Alexus, and Brayden, whom my son absolutely loves.
