**Disappointing Decline: My Gym’s 15-Year Journey to Neglect** I've been a loyal member of this gym for 15 years, through ownership changes and supposed "improvements." When the new owners took over, they spent money on cosmetic upgrades—paint and superficial fixes—giving the illusion of repairs, but nothing truly changed. For five years, I’ve waited for a new AC and heating system, hoping that the comfort level would finally match the price of membership. Instead, the gym remains unbearable for most of the year. At 6 a.m., when it’s only 70 degrees outside, the gym is already **80 degrees and humid with zero air circulation**. Their version of "air conditioning"? A few fans that barely move the thick, sticky air. Walking in, you immediately feel the suffocating heat, and even the staff seem drained and miserable. Corporate recently visited, heard the complaints, and **shot down the possibility of a new AC**—which means August will be even worse. And if you think summer is bad, **winter is just as miserable—only the opposite problem**. The gym’s airflow is so poor that the inside becomes **freezing**, to the point where dumbbells are painfully cold to the touch. You literally have to wear **outdoor gloves** just to lift weights because the metal is so ice-cold it hurts your skin. It’s not just the climate control that's failing—**broken equipment sits untouched for months**, ignored by management. Two machines have been down for three months now with no sign of repair. The parking lot is a **pothole-riddled mess**, and every attempt at fixing it involves cheap patchwork that crumbles within weeks. Even the **handicap section is dangerously uneven**, posing a serious fall risk. Today, I’m finally cancelling my membership. It’s clear that corporate sees this "diamond" club as nothing more than a cash grab, refusing to bring it up to even a **basic** standard. It’s heartbreaking, especially since I love the dance classes here—but there's absolutely no way to enjoy them in a **80-degree, airless room**. If you value a functional gym with proper maintenance and climate control, look elsewhere. The ownership has made it clear that member comfort is the least of their priorities.
I had recently visited this location to consider a membership as it is conveniently located near my office. Before I even went inside I was greeted with a parking lot that resembled a Kansas City Missouri road after a harsh winter. Crazy amount of patchwork, crumbling curbs, mounts of rock and dirt in parking stalls. I noticed that the trash bin on the side blocked the sidewalk because there is a bunch of trash behind the bin. I guess the trash guy said screw it, leaving it right here. Finally before even hitting the door I noticed the side walk on the other side of the building was blocked by what appears to be a giant "temporary" air conditioning unit with a bunch of tubes going into the building. Half the cold air is escaping through the numerous holes in the duct work. Water is running everywhere. I shook my head and talked with a lady who had just worked out. She said to run away as fast as I could. Repeated issues with broken down equipment, water stained ceilings. A mulched walking trail around the building that was washed out from a storm a month ago, etc. Think I am going to pass.
As someone who travels for work and has been to many different gyms(including other Genesis’) this one stands out above the rest! The fact that I can go get a great work out in, get a protein packed smoothie and go lay by a resort style pool, all at the same location?! Unbeatable. Definitely will be coming here every time in the KC area
Excellent Community Gym. The amenities are a huge draw. Lots of class variety. Group Exercise instructors are amazing. Lots of fun always happening. If you want to feel valued, as a customer, this is your place.
This club is absolutely trash. Please walk and see for yourself. The first thing that you will notice is grave size holes in the parking lot, which they appear to be getting fixed by some local friends that have no business working with asphalt. Next walk inside you’ll find definitely discovered ceiling tiles stained from roof issues but more importantly what will hit you right off the bat is the lack of AC or humidity removal. Every day I go in there it is 80+ degrees because they refuse to spend money on the AC. They also refuse to spend money on having any 45lb plates. Equipment is always broken. Any given day an incline bench will be missing a cushion or the back will slide out from underneath, pins missing from machines, bolts laying around that have fallen off of machines, padding cracked and missing leading to having to put a towel over it, this is if you CAN EVEN GET A TOWEL! Meanwhile the owner is trying to not pay taxes, where is our annual fee going? I think we all know.
