Reviews
In 2014 we hired Empire Design/SoCalFire to custom build an outdoor patio fireplace for our home in Corona del Mar. On at least 3 occasions, Michael Nasserama assured us that he had done many similar jobs in Newport Beach, and that a building permit was not required. We paid over $5,900 for the fireplace and it was installed later that year. After installation, the city cited us for a building code violation and required us to remove the fireplace or face fines of $100 per day, escalating to $500 per day. We contacted Michael and asked for his help; he denied any responsibility and only repeated his claim that a permit was not required and that the City was wrong. He basically said it was not his problem. We had to hire another company to remove the fireplace, or be subject to the fines. We took Empire/SoCalFire/Michael N. to small claims court in 2015 and won. Michael appealed the verdict, but the Court upheld the award and judgement against him and his company. Over one later later, we are still waiting for Michael to pay the judgement and make us whole. He has done absolutely nothing to resolve the situation.
