Indoor and outdoor pool facility with a rock-climbing wall and cardio equipment.
The Emma B. Howe YMCA features a lap pool, which is typically maintained at a standard temperature for swimming laps (generally between 79-82°F or 26-28°C). Additionally, there is a dedicated warm water pool, kept at a significantly higher temperature (typically 88-92°F or 31-33°C), ideal for therapeutic uses, swim lessons, and recreational activities for younger children and individuals preferring warmer water. Exact daily temperatures may vary.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The YMCA generally garners positive reviews for its friendly and knowledgeable staff, clean facilities including the pool and locker rooms, and a welcoming, family-friendly environment. Many laud the exceptional instructors and diverse classes, along with amenities like splash pads and a recently remodeled daycare facility (Kids Stuff). Members appreciate the option of a quieter location, while others enjoy larger sites with outdoor playgrounds and themed splash pads, as well as features like whirlpools and saunas. However, areas for improvement include staffing shortages that limit the availability of the climbing area and water features (slides, water tree), and inconsistent lifeguard rules for the water slide. A major concern was a highly negative 'Kids Stuff' experience, detailing staff negligence, lack of supervision, poor communication regarding a child's needs, and compromised safety protocols during pickup.

We really enjoy this YMCA, its probably on the smaller side compared to other locations, but that doesn't bother us any since we prefer it quiet. We don't have any complaints! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the pool and family locker room are clean and tidy (even though they're kind of aged you can tell they're cleaned!), the splash pad is fun and the environment is welcoming.
I have been to other YMCA locations and this location has the best instructors anywhere. I go every single day and take several classes, I also use machines and walk the track. My husband is a member as is my daughter, her entire family, and my son. My grandchildren have taken swim lessons at the y. During the summer months it is louder due to the kid population but I believe the staff, for the most part, keeps them under control. They have an adequate daycare facility which was recently remodeled. Although I didn't notice an increase of activities available. They could use additional staff so the climbing area could be utilized more often. The pool is great but again they could use additional staff so that the water slide and water tree are open longer. I also noticed that each lifeguard seems to have a different set of rules for the water slide, they need to be more consistent so both children and adults know the rules. The splash pad is great, although it seems to cater more to younger children. My grandchildren have taken classes with me and have utilized kidstuff, the pool and the splash pad, they enjoy all areas. The Y also encourages members to volunteer for great programs like feed my starving children which we participated in.
Really enjoyed our visit to this YMCA! It was a large establishment with an outdoor playground and indoor pool. The locker rooms were large and clean. Our family spent all of our time in the outdoor, castle-themed, splash pad and picnic area. It is all fenced in and also has two larger water slides ideal for your little ones.
Great place to workout & swim, then enjoy the whirlpool & sauna. Friendly staff, respectful, family atmosphere. I recommend the "Emma B Howe," YMCA, without hesitation.
The worst Kids Stuff experience I’ve ever had. When I dropped my child off I was “greeted” by a very disinterested worker. When I picked my child up, the worker was in the back corner on her phone. She never looked up or acknowledged me, a group of young kids asked me if I could open the door for them and let them out, one of them found the red button & they let themselves out. The worker never looked up or said a word, I called my child over to leave & the worker never verified it was my child or anything. Never spoke a word to me or looked at me (Anyone could’ve taken my child) I then noticed my child had a very dirty pull up , if I was notified I would’ve gladly changed the diaper. My kid has been in all sorts of daycares & camps, I’ve never seen anything like this. I’m absolutely heated and disgusted at the situation. The Andover YMCA has a phenomenal kids stuff & staff, wish all locations were like that one. I really hope they get their situation figured out because kids shouldn’t be in that environment. The level of negligence was beyond anything I’ve seen from a “professional” establishment.
