About

The Manhattan Athletic Club (MAC) at 4162 Manhattan Blvd, Harvey, LA, is a comprehensive fitness facility offering a wide array of amenities. It provides extensive cardio and strength training equipment, a variety of group fitness classes, basketball and racquetball courts, and both indoor and outdoor swimming pools. The club also typically offers additional services such as personal training, spa facilities (sauna, steam room), and childcare, serving as a well-rounded health and recreational center for its members.

The Manhattan Athletic Club features a heated indoor lap pool, available for year-round use, and an outdoor Olympic-size pool. While the indoor pool is explicitly heated, specific temperature details for either of the pools are not publicly disclosed.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for this gym are highly polarized. Positive feedback frequently highlights the enthusiastic, friendly, and professional staff, as well as the wide range of classes, including excellent water aerobics, yoga, cycling, and bodybuilding. The indoor, heated pool is a major draw, valued for its availability for classes and free swim, and for supporting mobility and post-surgical recovery. The sauna and weights are also mentioned positively. Conversely, a prominent negative theme is the severe lack of cleanliness, with multiple complaints of disgusting, moldy, and smelly locker rooms, bathrooms, and steam rooms. The pool's cleanliness is also questioned, with reports of mildew and an odor. Other criticisms include poor management, unclear membership explanations, and a generally uninviting atmosphere. There are notable contradictions regarding both staff performance and the facility's cleanliness, indicating inconsistent experiences among members, with one review mentioning the gym's closure.

I enjoy this gym. I'm comfortable going here. The staff is enthusiastic. They're not pushy salespeople. I've only had good interactions with other members. The locker room is a little dated, but it's very clean. And how much time do you need to spend in the locker room anyway? I haven't seen the hot tub function, but the sauna is relaxing and reliable. The pool... The pool! Indoor. Heated. It's not hot. But in March, an indoor pool is where it's at.

I use the pool daily for water aerobics classes. The instructors are excellent and the staff is friendly and professional. There are also yoga, fitness and cycling classes available. And there are a host of body building and fitness etc., classes for younger and more fit members. The pool is available for free swim and water exercising if you can’t make the morning pool class times and have to go to the gym before or after work. It’s a life changer especially for people looking to attain and/or maintain mobility and balance. Many people come post surgery after being discharged from PT and stay. Pool lap lanes are always available for swimming and swim lessons can be arranged.

The staff are hands down the best part of this place. They are super friendly always. However, the girls locker room is disgusting. The steam rooms, I am not sure they are ever cleaned. The seats are always slimy, and they stink pretty much constantly. You can smell the hot pool from 10 feet away. The fitness classes all have disco balls. I am not even joking, and they use them. So you are being assaulted by shinning moving lights while you are trying not to die. The weights are great.

They deserve lower then a zero if i could. the staff is not trained well at explaining your membership you better take your membership to a lawyer to read before you sign anything. They bathrooms are disgusting and moldy. I would definitely go to a $10 gym before recommending this gym to my worst enemy. Horrible staff and management that is worried about nothing but there bottom dollar.

I'm glad you're closing, the pool was not very clean. I saw mildew by the pool. This place wasn't very inviting. Bad management, I had a free membership through Lockheed Martin and I didn't want to go for Free !!!
