The University of New Orleans Aquatic Center, located at 6801 Franklin Ave, New Orleans, LA, is a premier aquatic facility featuring an Olympic-size 50-meter by 25-yard competition pool and a 17-foot deep diving well. It serves UNO students, faculty, staff, and the wider community, offering opportunities for lap swimming, recreational use, swim lessons, and hosting collegiate swim meets and various aquatic programs.
The main competition pool at the UNO Aquatic Center is heated. Specific average pool temperatures are not consistently published online, but similar collegiate and competition-grade facilities typically maintain water temperatures between 78-82°F (25.5-27.8°C) for optimal conditions for training, competition, and general lap swimming.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The swimming facility receives mixed reviews, but recent feedback, particularly since the introduction of new management (SELA Aquatics for UNO), points to improvements. While some older comments noted unheated pools, unkempt facilities, and a general lack of cleanliness, especially in the locker rooms and showers, more recent reviewers praise the clean pools, comfortable water temperatures (often 82 degrees), and friendly, professional staff. The facility offers a smaller outdoor pool good for beginners and a 50m indoor pool for serious swimmers. Many highlight the great value and reasonable membership cost. Consistent issues, however, revolve around the locker rooms and showers, which are frequently described as dirty and in need of significant updates. There are conflicting reports on pool crowding and the necessity of reservations, which may vary.

No Lifeguard, "Swim at your own Risk"; unheated pool and unkempt facilities. A great deal of deferred maintenance for such a promising location...here's to better times 🙏🏻
Great, clean, and easily accessible! This center has a wonderful staff that takes good care of the pools. The outdoor pool is a bit small, but perfect for first-time swimmers or cooling off on a hot day. The 50m indoor pool is where the serious swimmers go however. Usually split into two 25m sections, during the summer it is open for a full length with the option to share a lane with someone. Reservations fill up quickly and I'm not entirely sure how the wait list is handled. Overall, it is a great location for recreation, training, or learning to swim!
great value. Both pools open now and both heaters working properly @ 82 degrees, including outdoor pool. Pools not crowded, reservations and lane sharing not required with both open. pools usually very clean but skip the locker rooms and showers, both need work and update
Ermmm.. I swam here for over a year and it was average. The pool was dirty, the locker rooms were even dirtier. The pool was at lower temp than LSHAA recommends. It looks like it's genuinely never ever cleaned. I haven't visited the outdoor pool though.
Great place to swim laps inside and outside. There is a new management company, SELA Aquatics, running the pool for UNO. They are friendly and professional. The pools are clean and the water temperature is comfortable. The cost of membership is extremely reasonable. I highly recommend joining.
