What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for the Haverford YMCA are largely critical, primarily citing its extremely outdated and poorly maintained facilities. Common complaints include a pervasive mildew scent in the pool and locker room areas, chipping tiles, a dusty and warm pool where children reportedly urinate, a non-functioning sauna (since 2023), a men's locker room closed due to a roof leak, and cramped, outdated cardio and weight equipment. Reviewers feel the high membership fees do not align with the facility's condition, which some believe hasn't been updated since the early 2000s. There are also criticisms about the locker rooms having an inadequate ratio of bathroom stalls to changing rooms and lockers. However, positive remarks highlight excellent customer service from specific staff members, such as a kind and hard-working individual named Star and a front desk manager. For some members, the YMCA's proximity and their children's enjoyment of swimming are key reasons for continued attendance. One review praised an unnamed facility for its nice gym, pool, and staff, and another indicated that Haverford YMCA is superior to some other nearby YMCA locations in terms of space and amenities, despite its own issues. One review also mentioned negative interactions with certain older staff members regarding rules and technology, specifically an electric scooter, suggesting a need for staff training on modern adequacy and customer interaction.

As a member who has been going to have Haverford YMCA for 6+ years I am deeply saddened to say that this was a horrible experience. Everything there is extremely outdated. There is a mildew scent in the pool area/locker room The tiles are chipping, etc.. The pool had dust at the bottom of it. The pool was warm and a bunch of kids have been peeing in it. It was an absolute disgrace. The staff, however I think her name was star. She was incredibly sweet and nice and hard-working. She deserves a raise.
I’m giving it 3 stars because of the customer service I continue to receive from a front desk manager. But out of all locations, this YMCA is VERY VERY VERY outdated and could use some rehabbing and updating. I’m sure it hasn’t been updated since the early 2000’s. The locker rooms only have one bathroom stall with multiple changing rooms and lockers. The ratio of lockers and changing stalls to bathrooms does not add up. This location also has a sauna in the locker room BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN FUNCTIONING SINCE 2023! The mens locker room is closed due to a leak from the roof. The Cardio/weight room is extremely close together in regards to the machines. The weight machines are also very outdated. I do like the different levels this location has but some changes should happen. As much as the membership is per month it should be up to date. I’m looking forward to trying other locations. At this point I’m here because my kids enjoy swimming and it’s close to home. I hope this location receives a nice grant or donation to remodel this location. It has so much potential
I think the gym is OK could be a little bigger but it's fine for what it is however I don't like the staff particularly the older ladies that stare and watch your every move like your doing something wrong. Also i have an electric scooter that costs $1500 that i bring in to the lobby when I work out it's small and doest get in thr way of anything and I never had a problem brining it in until recently I went in for a workout early in the morning and a rude older lady behind the front desk, presumably the manager, started yelling at me as soon as I walked in the door telling me that it couldn't be in there, Because it's a fire hazard, that's just ridiculous. Your phone is a fire hazard with that logic Then because that has a battery too. I bring it in everywhere I go because I can't risk somebody stealing it. Especially in that neighborhood I bring it into my job and leave it overnight while I'm working. I bring it into Walmart and walk around with it. I bring it into fast food places. And like I said, I brought it into the y before and nobody has ever said anything besides her, because she thinks she's on a power trip and I couldn't even try to reason with her. She was just automatically rude and told me to leave it outside. Okay, I'll leave it outside, but are you gonna pay for it? If somebody steals it, I highly doubt its an official rule with you guys that it has to be left outside, because the guys at the desk never told me that before, and I know they would have if it was an official rule. So I have no problems with you. Guys, I think the gym is great. That's really the only thing I use. I can't speak on the pool or anything else, but I would like if you can give your staff, particularly the older staff, some training on modern adequacy and bring them up-to-date on new technology. Then explained to them that an electric scooter is not going to randomly explode. Maybe they see that on the news once and think it's just gonna automatically happen. It's not like I was charging it or anything. I've had it for over a year And obviously it's never exploded. They just don't know what they're talking about. And they're too set in their ways. I would like if you can have a talk with them. And explain the rules that way. I can bring my scooter inside the lobby when I'm working out, only for 30 minute workouts by the way not long, So that way, I can work out in peace, knowing that my scooter is safe. And that way, we're all happy. Thank you.
Very nice facility I love the gym and the pool, the staff here are very nice too especially the ones that work in the gym, they have a pretty good selection of equipment in the gym as well, from weights/dumbbells, ellipticals, treadmills, bikes and plenty of other equipment for a good work out. I’ve never tried any of the exercise classes but i would definitely like to soon.
The only YMCA that has yet to adjust their hours back to normal since COVID. Terrible weekend hours as well, super small smace even as a rec center. Any other nearby Y like the one in Haverford blows this place out the water, only even worth going if you have a keystone first health insurance
