Large outdoor pool alongside a park that's ideal for picnics and family outings.
As a large, public, outdoor pool, John B. Kelly Pool's water temperature is generally not actively regulated or published. It primarily fluctuates with ambient weather conditions and is typically unheated, warming naturally during the summer season when it is open to the public.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? This public pool is generally well-regarded as a free community resource in a beautiful, clean location with ample parking and open spaces. Many users appreciate the lifeguards, especially given the ongoing shortage, and note the newly added free adult swim lessons. However, there are significant complaints regarding capacity management, with gates often being locked even when the pool itself isn't full, and non-swimmers on the grass taking up 'spots' for actual swimmers. The lifeguard shortage also means only a portion of the pool is often open, leading to crowding. Some reviewers observed unprofessional behavior from lifeguards, such as dancing, cussing, and not opening additional pool sections despite availability. Tips include arriving right at opening to avoid lines and capacity issues. Specific weekday and weekend hours are provided, outlining dedicated times for camp swim, lap swim, free swim, swim team/lessons, family swim, and adult swim.

I love this pool! It’s totally free, the life guards are great and the space is beautiful. There’s still a lifeguard shortage so it can be a bummer to not use the whole pool but the lifeguards really do a great job and make the most of it. Weekday Hours: 11 am - 1 pm = Camp Swim 1 pm - 7 pm = Lap Swim 1 pm - 4 pm = Free Swim 4 pm - 5 pm = Swim Team/ Swim Lessons 5 pm - 6 pm = Family Swim 6 pm - 7 pm = Adult Swim Weekends & Holidays: 12 pm - 5 pm = Free Swim **Newly added: FREE Adult Swim LESSONS Tuesdays from 7pm-8pm**
I love this pool, but they keep locking the gates randomly when they “hit capacity.” There’s about 70 people just sitting on the grass — not using the pool — but other people can’t come in. I wasn’t allowed in to use the lap lanes because they were “at capacity” and there was only 1 person in the entire 3 lanes (for lap swimming). I understand there being a limit, but you have to actually see how many people are using the pool and not just sitting and reading. So people can come and sit in the grass all day, and then you’re taking up spots for swimmers? That’s absurd
Why should adults with kids or not with kids have to be subject to one section only of the pool which is with all the kids while you have 2 sections "closed"? 3 lifeguards stood around dancing given the finger to each other and cussing at each other across the the pool but yet would not open up the other section of the pool for adults. They spent more time talking to each other and a lifeguard on duty instead of opening up another section allowing more room
Kelly pool hours are 11am-1pm Camp Swim and 1-4pm open swim on weekdays. Kelly pool is usually really clean but can get busy fast, I recommend getting there right before open swim!
Great public pool in a beautiful location. Clean, ample free parking, and a lot of open space/picnic tables in the vicinity. Note: once they hit capacity you have to line up outside the gate. When there's a long enough line (maybe every hour or so) they ask everyone to leave and get in line so others have a chance to swim. Get to the pool right when they open to avoid the line. Also, with the lifeguard shortage, only a small portion of the pool is available for open swim. It can get a bit crowded. This is a great community resource! I will be going back many times this summer!
