About

Big Blue Swim School at 23 W Center St, Orem, UT 84057, USA is a dedicated facility offering swim lessons for children. It provides a comfortable, clean, and safe environment designed to help kids learn to swim and develop confidence in the water.

Big Blue Swim Schools, including the Orem location, typically maintain their pools at a warm 90 degrees Fahrenheit (approximately 32 degrees Celsius) for the comfort of their young swimmers.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? Big Blue Swim School generally receives positive feedback for its clean, well-maintained facilities, organized environment, and comfortable pool/air temperatures. Many parents commend the patient and encouraging instructors who help children feel comfortable, enjoy learning, and make significant progress in swimming skills, including specific strokes and good form. Reviewers appreciate the clear objectives, celebration of progress, individual feedback, and convenient online scheduling. The parent/baby class is noted for teaching water safety, and smaller class sizes are generally seen as beneficial, though some noted faster progress with fewer children. However, a notable criticism is that the curriculum, for some families, felt more geared towards swim team skills and specific stroke precision rather than basic water safety and survival skills (e.g., floating, doggy paddle, swimming without flotation devices). One family reported minimal progress over six months despite significant cost, feeling the curriculum was lacking for their specific needs, as their children primarily used flotation devices. While staff and facilities are widely praised, curriculum alignment with parental expectations can be a point of divergence.

We’ve had such a great experience with Big Blue. The instructors are super patient and encouraging, which makes learning enjoyable for the kids. They really try the best to make kids comfortable! The facilities are always clean and well maintained, and everything feels very organized. My children look forward to every class, and it’s wonderful to see the progress they’re making while still having fun. I would highly recommend this swim school to any parent looking for both quality instruction and a welcoming environment.

Great experience here with my 5 year old and 1 year old. My 5 year old has made great progress and the objectives for each level are clearly laid out. I love the parent/baby class and my one year old has learned some great water safety skills. Coming to Big Blue is a highlight of our week!

Big Blue Swim School has been a great experience for our family. They teach swimming step by step with clear goals. Each of my children has gained the ability to swim and with beautiful form. Other things they do well are celebrating each childs progress and giving individual feedback.

I'm always hesitant to leave bad reviews because I know it affects real people, but there are some things I wish we would have known before we went to Big Blue. For our kids (8 and 6), it seemed more geared towards swim team skills, but we were looking for more basic water safety and survival skills. If you want your kids to learn specific strokes with exact precision, this is a great place for you. If you want your kid to learn how to survive if they fall in, doggy paddle, float, swim using their arms, I would recommend going somewhere else. Our kids are pretty hydrophobic, so maybe it was just our kids. But we went for about six months, once a week, paid almost a thousand dollars in all, for barely marginal improvement. Every month or so an employee would come out and ask if we were satisfied or had any questions, and that they expected the kids to move up at some point because they were making progress somehow imperceptible to us, but they just stayed at the same level. Each week, they would swim back and forth across the pool with arms outstretched (so just using their legs to propel themselves) holding on to various floating devices for half an hour, and then we would go home. They never practiced floating on the front or back, swimming with their arms to propel themselves, doggy paddle, jumping in and climbing back out, or anything without flotation devices. The pros: It's always quite clean, and the water's a nice comfortable temperature, as well as the air in the room around the pool. There are plenty of well maintained dressing rooms, bags for taking your swimsuit home, hair dryers, showers by the pool, all very nice. They don't allow people to wear shoes on the pool deck, which I think probably keeps it nice, but it also seems to discourage parents from going into the deck some. Additionally, the online scheduling is really easy if you're going to miss a class or whatever. The facility is great, employees seemed nice enough, but the curriculum was majorly lacking from what we were looking for.

Both my boys (ages 4 and 6) had no idea how to swim. My 6 year old was progressing really well. He learned his strokes and with practice got better and better. The classes only have up to 4 children, but I did notice that he did a lot better the less children there were. My son has add and gets bored super fast, so he needs one on one time. Luckily for us, at the end of the year, the classes ended up having only him or sometimes one or 2 other children. If they still kept having 3 or 4 children I would have put him in private lessons with someone here. He definitely progressed faster when he was on his own. My 4 year old isn't progressing as much. He seemed to be stuck with his back stroke for a long time. His teachers are very patient and friendly. This place was 10 times better than the rec center we went to for swimming lessons before.the staff are friendly and the place is clean. I love that I can watch my boys through the glass easily. I definitely recommend this place.
