Water park featuring lap lanes, slides and diving boards, plus friendly staff.
Specific pool temperatures for the Fort Sam Houston Aquatic Center are not consistently published online. However, similar recreational and lap swimming facilities typically maintain their pools within a comfortable range, often between 78-82°F (approximately 25-28°C), with some specialized pools potentially being slightly warmer for therapy or lessons, or cooler for competitive training.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? The facility is generally regarded as a fun, family-friendly pool offering lap lanes, water slides, and a large free swim area, with staff often described as kind and welcoming. However, several issues detract from the experience: the pool's heater frequently breaks, causing closures; locker rooms are in need of updating and more rigorous daily cleaning; and the stairs to the slides require maintenance. Pool hours are a common point of frustration, with many finding them inconvenient or insufficient, wishing for more extended and consistent availability, particularly for family swim later into the season. A significant safety concern was also raised regarding lifeguard conduct during a ceremonial event while swimmers were still in the water. Additionally, the lack of a family entry option for locker rooms is noted as an inconvenience.

These hours are great for the afternoon, evening but what about the morning for persons who have to work from 1400 and upward? Also the heater is constantly breaking causing additional pool closures why? Fix the thing once and for all please all the back and forth and changing of pool hours is aggravating when trying to get your regular swim on smh 🤦
Fun place to stay cool on a hot day. There are Lap swim lanes, 3 water slides, and a large free swim area. They had a covered area with tables and an open, grassy area (that need mowing) with lounge chairs. Lifeguards and staff were very kind and welcoming. The water looked really clear and clean. The locker rooms need some updating and a STRONG, daily cleaning. I didn’t love that, as a boy mom, my son would had travel without me through the Men’s locker room to get to the pool. A family entry would be a nice touch. The stairs up to the slides could also use some maintaining/painting. Overall, our family appreciated this facility and wish it were open even more throughout the week and later into the season for free/family swim. It’s currently only open Friday-Tues 12-8 for free swim and all the other day are lap swim only.
Friendly family pool, slides, large size, Great.. During the retiring of the Colors the lifeguards blew their whistles... very patriotic, good; except there were young children and other swimmers still swimming in the pool. I've never seen such a lack of attention to safety, at a military pool, you'd have to know to better understand. Read or reread the U.S. Code on retiring the Colors (Safety FIRST, Right?). Other than that, not bad.
Free swim area Swimming, lanes, dive, 3 water slides, swim test for under age of 16 for slides and deep end swimming, it cost to get in, active duty free, wear mask as entering building, shower room, lockers, toilets on site
