Community fixture with a pool, classes and a gym, plus child sports and diving options.
While specific temperatures for the Mid-County Family YMCA pools are not publicly listed on their primary web presence, YMCA facilities of this type typically maintain their indoor lap pools at approximately 80-82°F (26.7-27.8°C) to accommodate general and lap swimming. Indoor program pools, often utilized for swim lessons, water exercise, and therapeutic activities, are generally kept warmer, usually around 86-88°F (30-31.1°C). The outdoor pool's temperature would vary seasonally.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for this YMCA location present a mixed but predominantly negative picture. One positive review highlights excellent lap swimming facilities, a nice universal locker room, and anticipation for group classes, leading to a new membership sign-up. However, the majority of feedback is critical, focusing on several key issues: inconvenient operating hours with staff rushing members out early, consistent and worsening cleanliness problems that staff reportedly ignore, and ongoing dissatisfaction with facilities, particularly the women's locker room, which has been closed repeatedly for renovation, forcing members to use an inadequate temporary space with only one bathroom stall, leading to membership cancellations. Furthermore, the children's camp receives severe criticism for its high cost, poor organization, lack of communication with parents (including unreturned emails and delayed, incomplete schedules), insufficient staffing leading to children's boredom and inadequate care, and serious safety concerns regarding children's exposure to heat, with some parents threatening legal action for negligence.

Why does this YMCA Make its own hours , closes at 4pm on weekends , closes at 9pm on weekdays ? Every other Y is open till 10pm and to top it off, the staff believes 9pm means 8:45pm everyone needs to be out of “their” facility !!! News flash buddy without members there is no ymca !!! This place needs an overhaul asap !!! No one cleans !!! This place is disgraceful. Things are getting worse and worse. The front office has been informed & they just ignore it, if I come here one more time & see all the nasty shit, I’ve been seeing the past year !! I am going to just call the health department my damn self !!! Fair Warning to the staff.
I am just finishing my one week free trial membership and will be signing up for a monthly membership. The pool is great for swimming laps. Depending on the set up, one length is either 25 yds or 25 meters. I’ve only had to share my lane one time. The universal locker room is nice, includes a suit centrifuge. It can get busy in there since the women’s locker room is being renovated, but it’s been fine and reasonably convenient. I am excited to try some of the included group classes like Zumba and Tai Chi.
I'm really disappointed with how things have been going at this YMCA location this year. For $2,500 for one child, the lack of organization and communication just isn’t acceptable. Camp information was sent out on the first day of camp — and it wasn’t even a full schedule. Just a basic swim schedule, with no details about other activities like foam parties or anything else, leaving parents completely in the dark. Both my wife and I have been emailing the camp coordinator and the general contact email, and to this day, we haven’t received any response at all. Not even a confirmation that our message was received. To give some perspective, my daughter attended the Kirkwood location for just one week, and the difference was night and day. They kept parents informed daily, gave clear instructions about weekly activities. I understand camp just started, but when you're working with other people’s kids and charging this much, the bare minimum should be consistent communication and timely responses. A simple “we received your email and will get back to you” would go a long way.
I am on a burner account for my child’s safety and treatment. The things my child tells me about camp is unacceptable. The treatment of children and counselors is careless and I will no longer have my child attending once I can afford to send him somewhere else. There are children on medication that makes them more susceptible to heat stroke. It is not acceptable to have my child along with others to be in the heat during this weather. I believe this is more to do with administration because the organization of the camp is poor. My child isn’t getting the care he needs and is bored. There should be MORE counselors to accommodate for the amount of children. I do not believe it is okay to have us paying and there are not enough counselors to entertain or care for our kids. I’m speaking to other parents about this and I hope they give all the counselors a raise because it is apparent that administration does not care for anyone but themselves. If my child or another child is sick or passes out because of this heat I will be filing charges for negligence. I am so livid right now it is not even funny.
I’ve been a member for 2 years now. They had the women’s locker room closed for a VERY long time due to renovations, briefly reopened it, and now it’s closed AGAIN! Now the women’s temporary locker room is the men’s old locker room (gross AND a safety hazard, how many men do you think have accidentally walked in there out of habit?) & most importantly: THERE’S ONLY ONE BATHROOM STALL. ONE. It’s the middle of summer, everyone in STL is trying to go to the gym and you’ve only got 1 stall in the ladies locker room? Is the YMCA aware of how many members it has? I’m literally canceling my membership today over this because I shouldn’t have to be standing in a line of 5+ women all waiting to use to the damn toilet. We pay too much money for this.
