About

The Capital District YMCA - Southern Saratoga Branch, located at 1 Wall St, Clifton Park, NY, is a comprehensive community wellness facility. It typically offers a wide array of programs and amenities including fitness centers, group exercise classes, a gymnasium, and various aquatic facilities, catering to individuals and families focused on health, well-being, and community engagement.

The Southern Saratoga Branch maintains its Lap Pool at a temperature of 81-82°F, the Family Fun Pool at 88-90°F, and the Spa Pool is consistently heated to 102°F.

What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for the CDYMCA are varied, highlighting both strengths and points of frustration. The recent e-gym renovation garners mixed reactions; while some members find it motivating and a positive modernization, others express significant dissatisfaction over the removal of functional equipment (e.g., TRX, battle ropes, reverse hyper), reduced stretching areas, and general crowding. Pickleball availability is a major source of conflict, with many members, particularly those using basketball courts, feeling displaced and criticizing management for prioritizing certain groups, negatively impacting youth sports. On a positive note, the facility is highly rated for bodybuilding, featuring a sauna, steam room, Olympic pool, and extensive weight room, offering good value compared to competitors. However, concerns persist regarding membership price increases during ongoing renovations, limited access to some areas, and the removal of amenities like cable TV on cardio machines.

Love the CDYMCA overall (I think it's one of the better branch systems in the country), but I do have to complain about the Southern Saratoga e-gym renovation because it removed functional and used equipment. I totally understand needing to move in a direction that brings a new generation or simply a wider spectrum of members and totally support that. But... the renovation removed a lot of stuff that was actually used. Such as the TRX rack and reduced the stretching area to a mat in front of the med ball wall, which maybe 2 people can use at once. It also means it's one or the other. Not both because it would be rude to toss a med mall while someone is stretching, and frankly possibly unsafe. It also removed the battle ropes (which weren't collecting dust). Maybe the TRX rack is coming back when the renovation is done, but I doubt it. People were always on that apparatus and it allowed for at least 6-8 pull up stations at varying heights, plus more useful TRX setup. Currently the only 3 places to do pull-ups are to occupy a squat rack, occupy the cable machine, or use the assist/dip machine. If the rowing machines weren't on the track it would be possible to add some pull-up bars/TRX stations and perhaps the battle ropes. So no complaints on the additions, just that they removed a lot of useful apparatus that people were using and didn't really make it so those stations were replicated in a useful way. Edit to also note. Why remove the reverse hyper that was there for maybe a year? That was a pretty awesome machine that cannot be easily replicated with other tools. For instance the TRX rack also served as an extra bench and squat rack so adding a 3rd squat rack was actually a break even on squat racks. But the reverse hyper? I guess a medicine ball on a bench in a pinch to get a little of the benefits.

E-gym, sauna, and additional facilities are all great. I’m not sure why somebody on here is complaining about making space for the e-gym, get with the times, it’s been a motivator for me. I also see people complaining about pickleball availability but that’s because of popular demand, if anything the youth teenagers suffer more from pickleball taking away from the basketball courts compared to other ymca I’ve seen. Can’t please everybody, this ymca does a pretty good job trying though! Updated from 4 to 5 star!

Realistically if your in to body building this place trumps planet fitness 100%. Sauna/steam room shaving cream on tap. olympic size swimming pool and hot tub #wouldntgointhatthingifitwasthecuretocancer Full track court and massive weight room with every machine available you could think of (besides a lat pull machine). 50 bucks a month is def worth it. They gave me a free week to try it out. Planet fitness is far from this place and for 30 dollars more well worth. Great parking and trail access.

Honestly, it's becoming ridiculous and frustrating with this pickle ball in this location. You might as well take down the YMCA SIGN and replace it with Pickle Ball Hub or something. Every time we try to go use the BASKETBALL COURT for basketball 🏀 it's being used for pickle ball. I'm sure there's standards, schedules, and rules for the gym use at this location. Obviously, management chose not to abid by it, they choose to please certain group of members over others. Every time u do this, u putting these kids out in the streets to do bad things. This should be a place for kids to gather and play sports. The funny thing is they are doing construction in the premises and not everything is available. They actually have the nerve to increase the membership prices.

The remodel which is still ongoing is horrible. Not sure who the clientele is we are going for. I’ve been a member for years but thinking about going elsewhere. The ellipticals and treadmills are so tight and less to make room for E gym ?? And no more cable on the TVs. And not even sure what half the renovations were for.
