Martin Neighborhood Pool is a popular outdoor public swimming facility managed by Austin Parks and Recreation, located in the Holly Street area of East Austin. It serves as a community hub, offering a refreshing escape during the summer months with a main swimming area suitable for lap swimming and general recreation, often including a shallower section for families and children.
As a seasonal outdoor pool in Austin, Martin Neighborhood Pool is generally unheated. The water temperature is primarily dependent on ambient air temperatures and sun exposure, meaning it will be cooler earlier in the season and gradually warm up significantly as the summer progresses.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? This neighborhood pool receives mixed reviews. Positive aspects include its convenient location near a lake and trail, ample shade, and a shallow pool area suitable for young children. However, significant concerns were raised regarding safety and security, including an incident of patron harassment and a perceived lack of security personnel beyond lifeguards. Cleanliness was also an issue, with reports of 'gross' water and babies swimming without swim diapers. Additionally, some patrons displayed inappropriate behavior, and there were suggestions for adjusting opening hours due to frequent closures for classes and programs, advising visitors to check schedules online.
Reviews
My daughter was threatened and harassed by a middle aged male patron near the pool and park area. When leaving we realized there’s virtually no security or neighborhood watch nearby. If not for the lifeguards there’s no one available to intervene should your safety be at risk. Pool water was gross. People let their babies swim with no swim diaper at all— just shorts. Most patrons were responsible and nice but a handful really didn’t know how to act in public.
Probably need to adjust your opening hours folks…
Awesome pool! Love the location. You can walk the trail by the lake, picnic under a tree and cool off in the pool.
Awesome neighborhood pool. Make sure you check online for schedules, they have pool closed for classes and programs a lot.
Neighborhood pool with a good amount of shade cover. Shallow pool for younger children.
