My recent visit (late June) was decent I suppose. There were a lot of people but it was manageable. I must say though, the staff overall, like some ladies sitting around with “instructor” shirts on, were unpleasant and unfriendly. I'm sure it gets frustrating since it's loud and dealing with the crowded pool is a lot. However, service is everything in my opinion. They should train these folks to be super friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Another big turnoff to note for me was that the hot tub was noticeably dirty. It’s gross when you can see dirt and debris atop the water. Also, it didn't feel warm enough to me. Lastly, I found that the women’s dressing room needed a good cleaning as well.
I’ve been coming here for years, and Fairland Sports and Aquatics Complex never fails to deliver a top-tier experience for workouts, family fun, and friendly competition. It’s my go-to spot when I want reliable facilities, great staff, and a welcoming atmosphere. What keeps me coming back Diverse aquatics and fitness options: Indoor and outdoor pools, a well-equipped gym, and an inviting lap lane setup make it perfect for serious swimmers and casual splashes alike. The water is clean, well-maintained, and temperatures feel consistent across visits. Fantastic for families: The kids’ splash zones, shallow wading areas, and family-friendly pool hours make it easy to enjoy a day with little ones without sacrificing quality time for adults. Friendly, knowledgeable staff: Lifeguards and front-desk teams are consistently attentive, helpful, and approachable. They’re quick to assist with everything from locker room tips to class schedules. Cleanliness and safety: The facility is well-kept, with clear signage, tidy locker rooms, and visible safety protocols that put me at ease whether I’m coaching a swim lesson or just enjoying the water. Flexible programming: Seasonal swim lessons, water aerobics, and community classes keep things fresh. The fitness center and courts are great for workouts before or after a swim. Facilities and amenities Pools: Clean, nicely heated, and well-supervised. Lap lanes are clearly marked, and there are plenty of shaded seating areas for spectators. Gym and courts: A solid selection of cardio and strength equipment, plus courts for basketball or pickleball—perfect for a full afternoon of activity. Family-friendly conveniences: Locker rooms with abundant lockers, showers, and change areas, plus a welcoming environment for guests of all ages. Parking and accessibility: Ample parking, easy access for strollers, and ramps where needed. The layout makes it simple to navigate even on busy days. Programs I love Swim lessons for kids and adults that are well-structured and progress-focused. Water aerobics and shallow-water classes that are great for low-impact workouts. Community swim meets and open swim times that let you cheer on local athletes or log some leisurely laps. Tips for a smooth visit Check the schedule ahead of time: Open swim hours, class times, and special events can fill up quickly. Arrive early on busy days to snag preferred lanes or a comfy viewing spot. Pack a towel, sunscreen for outdoor days, and a small snack for before or after workouts. Bring a lock or use on-site lockers; the facility is secure, but it’s nice to have a personal lock. Bottom line Fairland Sports and Aquatics Complex in Laurel is a reliable, welcoming hub for fitness enthusiasts, families, and community athletes. It combines quality facilities with a friendly culture and practical convenience, making it a standout choice for year-round recreation. Highly recommended for frequent visitors who value consistency, clean facilities, and a warm, community feel.
Love this place. My son does year-round swim here and it’s usually pretty packed out for meets. Definitely get here early if you’re coming to a meet and you want a bleacher seat, if not, bring a folding chair or try to grab a seat outside in the lobby. Also, pack snacks/drinks because their vending machines are iffy. They’re known to take your money and not give anything in return or just flat out be empty. But all in all, it’s a great place! I’ve been coming here since I was a little girl, lots of things to do outside as well.
Update- I've seen people working in the pool a month ago and changing tiles. I have not been in there though. I have seen doors with signature of cleaning that have been up to date. Went during open swim hours with a 7 and 3 year old. There were plenty of space and lanes open. Many lifeguards were on duty around the entire area. I haven't been since the pandemic, so it was nice to return and see many of the same lifeguards teaching classes and on duty. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. The facilities were normally clean. The floor was a little dirty around the swim areas and many of the seating was wet due to the roof dripping in several areas. I see used gum, leaf, hair, paper, and other things on the floor. Seating is limited around the pool areas but there are many upstairs in the bleachers area. There's also an area outside the bleachers. Normally they have tables and chairs, but I can't remember seeing them today.
I loved this community center my whole life growing up! My favorite part of this place is the beautiful park, the trail & indoor pool! Although, In recent times there has been very rude staff members in the entrance who just don’t give the welcoming feeling you’d like. Hopefully the attitude changes around and Residents can be welcomed in the right way.
