The Y in Pasadena typically maintains different temperatures for its pools. The lap pool is generally kept cooler, often around 78-82°F (25-28°C), ideal for fitness swimming. The warm water therapy pool, designed for comfort and therapeutic exercise, is usually maintained at a significantly warmer temperature, typically ranging from 88-92°F (31-33°C).
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for the YMCA highlight several significant concerns, primarily focusing on pool access and staff conduct. Many members express frustration with excessively long wait times and severe crowding at the pool, often attributed to understaffing (specifically lifeguards) and unclear capacity management, which diminishes the overall experience. Other common complaints include an overabundance of rules and perceived 'power trips' by some lifeguards. A particularly serious allegation involves racial discrimination and harassment by staff and management, leading to the unjust banning of a long-term member and their partner. These issues lead multiple reviewers to question the value of their membership.

I have been an active member at this YMCA for 6 years and this summer has been the absolute worse. Today I arrived at the pool at 11am and at 1 we are still sitting here! I have seen about 6 families leave the pool area and they only called back one family. I was told it’s only 3 lifeguards on duty so they can’t have too many people in the pool, I would like to know when did staffing issues become a problem for the customers! It’s no fun watching not only my kids but others sitting around with nothing to do while we are hoping and praying for our turn to swim! The YMCA IS A GOOD INVESTMENT, but lately I’ve been second guessing my membership!
It's hard to get reservations, but it's nice for the fam when you do. Lanes for each family and shallow ends for the youngins.
Great pool, but the amount of rules is over the top. Some of the lifeguards are on a power trip. Hard to enjoy yourself when kids and adults are constantly reprimanded. I will come back but not frequently. The Arnold Y has a much smaller pool but the staff are much friendlier and they let your kid have fun.
I love the Y and think the pool and little splash pad is great. However, I think it gets way too crowded and I’m not sure they have a capacity. If they do, I think it should be lowered. The last time I went, the pool was so crowded, it was hard to even swim. I can’t imagine it being easy for the lifeguards to be able to see everything happening. It is a little frustrating to see two giant pools open, but children aren’t allowed in and they are pretty empty. Again, the pool is beautiful but for $91 a month, I would like to be able to swim with my kids, not just stand in one spot or trying to make my way through a ton of people.
Used to love it here but after their management racially discriminated against the man I am dating (black) who was standing up for me as I was experiencing targeted harassment by staff, things got really bad. Been a member of the Ys in the area for 14 yrs. Never had any issues until this and all of a sudden, because he’s black, we are no longer welcome. He threatened no one except a law suit if it didn’t stop. They even called the cops as if he were a common hoodlum. When I told management they did nothing to stop it. The man harassing me blocked my exit and that was so intimidating. He also yelled at me, humiliated and embarrassed me, bullied me and turned other staff and members against me. They did nothing. When my friend posted, suddenly the cops are called and I’m not allowed back? Because he’s black?! Unreal!
