What are people saying (AI review summary)? The Baxter YMCA elicits mixed feedback from users. Positive aspects frequently highlight the superb water park area, noting its amenities and the attentiveness and quick response of lifeguards. The summer camp program, especially for children with specific needs like Type 1 diabetes, received exceptional praise for its inclusive care and supportive staff, with Head Counselor Nyla being specifically commended. Swim classes and instructors also garnered positive remarks. However, significant negative experiences include an unaddressed complaint regarding a rude lifeguard incident that led to a membership cancellation, inconvenient alignment of class times and child watch schedules, and a troubling encounter with a front desk staff member who was perceived as difficult and potentially prejudiced when a member attempted to add adopted children to their household membership.

The water park is great and I love the yoga class . The older lady at the front desk with the white hair was a pain . She gave me quite a time when adding some additional children to my membership that are in my household . She told me that the minute we leave she would be disabling my minor adopted brother from my account. ( he’s Hispanic so I’m hoping she wasn’t being prejudice ) she went on to say they were really strict there at Baxter that I should go to riverwalk or rockhill ymca and get him added. She told us it’s not her that cares but her manager is the one that is very strict and would be deleting my adopted siblings ( again that are in the household ) once she finds out . My boyfriend had called ymca and asked if it would be a problem before we got there because he is proactive and they said it wouldn’t . The other staff have been amazing but this interaction deffinetly rubbed us the wrong way .
I cannot say enough good things about our experience with the Baxter YMCA Summer Camp this year! 💛 As a mom of a Type 1 diabetic child, I was nervous about sending Mallory to camp… but those nerves were completely eased thanks to the incredible care and attention she received — especially from her head counselor, Nyla. Nyla was a true angel. 🙏 She went above and beyond to make sure Mallory felt safe, included, and supported every single day. She kept my momma heart calm with updates, kindness, and genuine love for my daughter. Mallory absolutely thrived under her wing, and we are SO grateful for her. 💕 To Nyla, Tera, and the entire Baxter YMCA team — THANK YOU for creating a space where my daughter could just be a kid, while still receiving the care she needed. You blew my expectations out of the water. We will never forget this summer. ☀️💪 #YMCAstrong #ThankYouNyla #T1DWarrior #CampMemories
We had a bad experience with this YMCA. I filed a complaint after one of the lifeguards was rude and unkind to my son, making him cry, and they never even responded. The class times and child watch schedules also do not line up well. We cancelled our membership. Our time here was a huge disappointment.
The water park area is superb. It’s divided into 3 areas, an adult water slide, a pool area up to 5-7 feet deep (not sure about that) and a kiddie area. One of the things I like about this is the ample lifeguards on duty. In the kiddie pool area, there are usually two lifeguards on both sides of the pool. One time my 4-year-old fell and cut his lip, one of the lifeguards was there within seconds and another rendered first aid.
I and the kids visit regularly. Mostly for swim classes. The location have classes all year long and the instructor are great. Shout out to Max. He’s been helping me become a great swimmer 🏊♀️.
