Coors Fitness Center

About

The Coors Fitness Center, located at 2201 E Asbury Ave, Denver, CO 80208, USA, is a comprehensive fitness and recreation facility primarily serving the University of Denver community, but also open to the public through various memberships. It features a wide array of equipment including cardio machines, weight training areas, group exercise studios, a climbing wall, and various courts for sports like basketball and racquetball. The center also boasts aquatic facilities and offers personal training services.

The Coors Fitness Center features a lap pool typically maintained around 80-82°F (26.7-27.8°C), and a warmer leisure/therapy pool usually kept between 86-88°F (30-31.1°C).

What are people saying (AI review summary)? The reviews cover El Pomar Natatorium and Coors Fitness Center, with one general positive note on renovations. El Pomar Natatorium is described as a decent speed pool with excellent starting blocks and a large scoreboard, but it has limited space around the pool, little athlete seating, and few backstroke guides. Its membership is considered expensive, open swim hours are very limited and often during working hours, and emails go unanswered. Coors Fitness Center is generally praised for its cleanliness, central location, abundant machines, classes (including racquetball), and helpful, friendly staff, making it suitable for general fitness and cardio, especially at opening hours. However, its membership is costly, and it's not recommended for the pool due to El Pomar's limited availability. For serious lifters and bodybuilders, Coors is deemed a 'nightmare' due to insufficient (few benches, squat racks), outdated, and poorly maintained weightlifting equipment, lack of Olympic platforms and bumper plates, and a chalk-free policy on worn bars, leading to severe overcrowding during peak hours. One review, possibly for an unspecified facility or one of the aforementioned after improvements, noted 'dope renovations' reflecting management's responsiveness to user complaints.

Coors is a really cool place. Lots of machines, lots of classes, RACQUETBALL, and lots of helpful staff. The place is clean and cool. It's centrally located in University Park, and is pretty much one of the neatest fitness centers around. Sure, it's huge, but where else can you get all of your necessary services all in one place?

A decent speed pool with bulkheads and superb starting blocks. Love the large scoreboard. Only 5 feet between the edge of the pool and a concrete bulkhead by the starting blocks, which can get cramped quick. Very little athlete seating in big events. For backstrokers, there are few guides on the ceiling to naturally follow.

An excellent space for training, but... I bought my membership in August after having a frustrating experience at another gym. I was also interested in swimming at El Pomar Natatorium. The good things The overall service is very good. The staff is young and friendly. They do not speak Spanish. That can be a problem if you don't speak English. The equipment is optimal. And the capacity at the opening time (6 am) allows to train without difficulty. These days, with the return of classes, you see more people. But it is not overcrowded. The changing rooms, showers and toilets are always clean. In general, the spaces are well maintained. It is safe and you don't have to look at your personal belongings at every moment for fear that they will be stolen. The downside The membership is for 6 months and is very expensive for what they offer. The Pomar Natatorium has very few hours available for open lap swim and is open during working hours for most people. They never respond to emails. Neither the ones I sent from the website, nor the ones I sent to the offices. If you are thinking about Coors Fitness Center because of the pool, I do not recommend it. There are other places with more hours available and at a much lower cost.

The Coors fitness center is what you would expect for a gym that is free for college students. All of the University's money is invested in the gym for the athletes and the cardio equipment, so for builders and Olympic lifters its a nightmare. They have 3 flat benches, 2 adjustable benches, and 2 squat racks. This would be acceptable if you went to a gym that had 20 people at peak times, but there can be well over 100 people in there from 3-6 on weekdays which makes it crowded, claustrophobic, and impossible to do what you want to do. Besides that a lot of the weight machines are outdated, worn down, or flat out useless and are only there to fill space. They have a nice selection of free weights, but unless you work out late at night or early in the morning, good luck finding a bench to use them on. Of the 4 free weight benches they have, only two are adjustable. They have no Olympic platforms and no space to do free floor exercises like deadlifts outside of the racks. They have no bumper plates and the facility is also "chalk free" which makes handling all of their bars, that are so worn that they feel like a greased pig, impossible if you're using heavy weight. Like I said, this place is a heaven for cardio rats and people looking to do classes and such but is a nightmare for people who are wanting to get into serious lifting or bodybuilding.

Dope renovations, management heard the complaints and delivered exactly what the people wanted.
