Public swimming pool where kids are welcome.
As a public outdoor pool, the Westbury Swimming Pool is generally unheated. Its temperature is ambient and fluctuates with the weather conditions, making it suitable for refreshing dips during the hot Houston summer.
What are people saying (AI review summary)? Reviews for this swimming pool are predominantly negative, highlighting numerous issues. Common complaints include unhygienic water (described as warm and unclean), a severe lack of seating and shade, and the persistent closure of key attractions like the splash zone, deep end, and slides, with no indication of when they might reopen. Patrons also expressed frustration with poor communication regarding operating hours and swimming lesson schedules, leading to wasted visits. Lifeguard and staff conduct is a significant concern; they are often described as rude, unprofessional, and overly strict, sometimes to the point of stifling fun. Specific incidents mentioned include lifeguards allegedly ignoring a child in distress, playing around, and an instance where a head lifeguard reportedly instructed a child to pretend to drown and allowed her own child to flout rules that applied to other patrons. While some reviews briefly mention clean restrooms and the children having fun, these positives are largely overshadowed by widespread dissatisfaction with the facilities and staff.

This swimming pool was very upsetting, me and my family had a terrible time there. First off the water was warm like someone peed in there, then there was barely anywhere to sit at my kids were standing in the heat no source of shade to protect from the sun. Lastly the lifeguards saw a kid begging for help in the water and did not pay attention. This is not very unethical behavior coming from a public swimming pool.
The lifeguards are strict, but it’s only for our safety. However the pool is always clean, the restroom are very clean. Lifeguard are welcoming and a friendly staff. I highly recommend. The only problem is that the splash zone and the deep end is closed. And takes out the fun in it. Without it it’s just a regular swimming pool and I’ve noticed it’s been closed for years with previos reviews. Doesn’t seem they are catching the memo about fixing the problem.
This is a place meant for fun, obviously families with kids frequent it, and the way these people run this pool is ridiculous. I have no problems with rules, but after they're done yelling at you it seems like the only thing you can do is stand there quietly in the pool. The staff is rude and unprofessional. I go out of my way to use another neighborhood pool where rules are inforced for safety, and yet kids still have a good time. Imagine that?
Its a nice pool and the kids had fun which is what really matters how ever the staff leave something to be desired. Ms dominque the head lifeguard seems to think the pool is her personal child care center and that the rules (no eating no pool toys abd no kid in the office area) apply to everyone but her child. She even had told a child. To pretend to drown to see if the lifeguard was watching. That is unsafe because what if someone waa really in danger their attention would be distracted.
I arrive ar the pool 3:40 by the time she wrote our information it was 3:50p.m. 10 minutes later @4 they said everyone out the pool lessons for swimming will start. If this information would have been shared on there website or even on there bulletin board would have arrived before. No proper information only states the hours people assumes its open all hours as it states for all public. Not just for me as a parent but there was many of us that had just arrive life guards did not even inform as well as the ones just arriving because of the hours on the internet. People trying to get in but only swimming lessons children could stay. Would be nice to have the courage to inform stay up to date on the hours. Almost forgot what's the point of the sliding if it's not open, from my experience today and the pass reviews I read before my comment. Been to other public pools and there is section for regular public and then section for swimmers enough room for this opportunity also. Lifeguards also playing around punching each other.
